Topic: the name game

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Cyder's topic about what would you do if you could run Atomix , had a few responses to change the name

which i think is very tricky and Frought with Portent ......

"George Frought and Fred Portent" .... if i remember right

at any rate the other names out there ain't so great .....

in fact they have the whole pharmacopoeia of allergic reactions ....

scratch ? itch ? twitch ? quick where's the benadryl ......

i guess rash and hives can't be far behind .......

and the arguments ......

"well i used to scratch , but now i have hives "

sheesh

so the current names shouldn't be a basis for a new name for us ....

and a new name should evoke power and versatility .....

so name some names ......

I like games, I wanna play...

taking words that describe this product known as Virtual DJ and looking up the synonyms is a good place to start.

Professional - Virtuoso, Sage, Absolute, Consummate, "CrackerJack"

Best - Primo, Ace, Boss, Optimum, Supreme

Smart - Crafty, Agile, Keen, Sharp, Slick, Wise

Equipped - Array, Rigged

Talented - Brilliant, Knack

Total or complete - "The Works"

So with these you could start building names that describe this product...

Slick Array, Ace Rig and so on... This evolves and mutates until a fitting name comes about.

Of course I'll use the product regardless of the name, I'm too old to give a shit what the kids think of my tools.

one thing to remember when considering a global product name is the implications in other languages and cultures.

e.g the Porsche 944 in china was a no no, especially in green!

the current trend is almost to pick a random or made up word....fruity loops, prius, bluray, etc, etc...

I dont think the name needs changing, just revamp the logo.............

Huey

IMHO the whole name problem is bogus. The only people who have made negative comments about the name Virtual DJ are a handful of sad Serato fanboys who are desperate to find any excuse to dis VDJ. If re-branding would make such a difference, surely Numark CUE would've surpassed Virtual DJ in user volumes ages ago - but it hasn't, not by a long shot.

I'm all for new logo and general face lift, though.

I think it should be called SERAKTOR lol, nah just "atomix dj pro" something like that, but I don't really care I own Virtual DJ I know what it's capable of but I'm not going to buy it again, the name change would be so the future traktor and serato fanboys try something different before following the herd, and you all know what the herd says about Virtual DJ... IMHO the reason numark cue didn't sell is that numark made second rate equipment until recently and in australia at least it was only $100 cheaper for Virtual Vinyl than Traktor Pro or Serato... Maybe call it Synthetic DJ... LMAO

I've been told a couple of times that Since i Use "Virtual" DJ and I DJ on "Virtual" DJ radio that I am not a real DJ???

I know it doesn't make sense but some people think that Virtual is fake, Just like a Virtual Life is a fake life.

I am for a new name.

Not sure of what the name could be but as someone mentioned earlier "Atomix DJ" could work.

That is funny.

A real DJ can rock a crowd with anything!

Maybe I should go tryout for "Master of the Mix" even though I don't drink that nasty vodka and use VDJ software with a couple of cheap woobly belt drive turntables, my RMX for my mixer and some computer speakers and I'll wear Steve Urkel high water pants, beat juggle for a while and then hit my dj drop that says, "I'm rocking with virtual dj!" Then bust the first person in the head with my old gemini mixer, who dare calls me a fake DJ after I make the cut with my fake software! Especially when I was rocking parties before most of these so called clowns wasn't even a nut in their daddy's nut sack or figured out they had something to play with between their legs!

I find it funny users of the other softwares try to call out people for using VDJ and most of these DJ's are WACK on their software, vinyl, cd's, mp3's or whatever they use!

Besides my clients don't say, great software, they say "JOB WELL DONE!"

"VIRTUAL DJ" is the name and there is not a damn thing wrong with the name!

Praise The Lord.

Totally agree, and neither do the punters, but I think the issue is with other people in the industry.

I personally can't stand the name Virtual DJ and I simply refer to it as Atomix.

I have sucessfully converted 2 professional turntablers on to it, and they also hate on the name.
It's obviously an issue or this thread wouldn't exist and I'm glad someone brought it up.

I absolutely love this software, and definately spend time defending it against other CDJ users.

It would make my life easier if it didnt sound like an iphone app.

LOL, I can understand your point on that one, yet to me I see nothing wrong with the name, because to me it's just a name. Just my personal opinion.

I sometimes feel like I talking a chick who only do name brands when it come to this name thing with other DJ's, yet none of them have even half my resume. Which is why I have to shake my head and laugh.

In all reality, Serato and Traktor are nothing but Virtual DJ with just have different names. Weather they're better than VDJ is really up to personal preference, because I tried all 3 of them and my personal favorite is VDJ.
