I have a fashion show and the person running it needs to give me CDs to load and cue. I have done this before with a CD player but it's kind've a pain trying to cue every track on the fly. I know I could rip the tracks and be done with it but I am worried about time constraints. I have used the CD loading feature several times and have had much success. I just have not done it for an entire set (show lasts about an hour).
Has anyone had much experiences with this CD loading feature? Are there any caveats?

This is how I would do it. Get the Cd's from the client and rip them yourself. Even if it is that day, I rip them. If this is not possible, get the list and find the tracks before the affair. Why put yourself through all that hassle? What ever could go wrong, is too much. One thing and the show is done. Plus, how are you gonna play one song off of one CD and then play another song of another CD? Do you hear the crickets?

I have, in the past, used this method. I have two identical external Samsung DVD/CD ROM drives that I used to run into my laptop, allowing me to play from CD's.
there is a time factor as the disc loads and spools up, then VDJ checks it out. I used to put one track on a disc and made sure it was an MP3 - if it was CDA or WAV, VDJ would only show it as Track 1 and would re-analyse the track every time it was loaded, not the case with MP3.
So, simple answer is yes its do-able, but a lot of hassle.

it should still be "do"able with just one CD drive!
load first song on deck A
once fully loaded, you should be able to remove the disc from the drive and load next song on the next deck.
this one-drive disc swap method fails if you try to use the playlist, as this dosent pre-load the music to memory..

1. Creat a temp Virtual folder.
2. Open the D:\cd root from the folder window.
3. Drag the tracks to the temp folder, I've loaded 10 or more tracks.
4. Load to an available deck, I've loaded three to five decks from one CD.
5. Play when ready, and mix if needed at will.
6. You need to leave that one cd in the Cd player.
7. But, if you have two Cd players then you could load and play from the two Cd's., but the Cd's most stay loaded.
This works for me with no problems..
Good Luck,

I am not feeling all these steps, to do a gig. To me, "doable" means last resort, when all else fails. When I do fashion shows, most of the times, I will even attend rehearsals. There is no way I show up and let someone hand me a bunch of Cd's. Ever have a CD not want to play? Scratched or dirty? Fashion shows are hectic enough, why would I put myself through all those steps. How hard is it to get the music before hand? Not only am I making my job go smoother, I am assuring the client that I have everything under control, and they do not have to worry about the music.

I gotta agree with him on this.............when we do are hip-hop shows NO CD's will be taken from any MC preiod!! Way to many things can go wrong. A few months back we had David Banner do a show, this dude came in with 3 cd's and wanted to play from all 3!! I said with all do respect arent you a pro at this type of stuff (granted he hasnt had a hit for a loooooooooong time, lmao). I handed back his cd's with a jump drive and a netbook. Told him he could go on after he had his tracks on the drive and in order. Ive taken rappers cd's before and a few times they wouldnt play or theyd skip, then they turn around and look at me like I did something to the disc. We had to make it a rule, NO CD's and if you did bring 1 well either you werent gonna play or see if the house sound guy would do it cause we aint.
Now we have all the acts we book email us their tracks or if they bring their own dj he can deal with it.
Better to get it ahead of time cause you just never know...........

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to keep this as a last resort tactic and first try to just rip the track before. I was able to load the tracks from one CD to the players, one after the other and it worked perfectly in a test run. The plus is the CD contains every track in order. The lady also gives me two CDs just in case.
Hopefully I won't have to resort to doing this on the fly and have time to rip the tracks. At least I did not get any horror stories from you guys. It seems to work fairly well, and it's just another example why this software is awesome.
Thanks again!
