I go to many different clubs every week and hangout with many djs and many promoters. If Virtual DJ wants to be visbile in many clubs.. They have to step up the game with the time codes. All these djs only care about is using time codes with either turntables or CDJ decks. They dont care about midi. The clubs would buy what the Djs want. The standard is eithe two cdjs or turntables or both with a Urie mixer or a serato 57 sl or Pioneer DJM mixer along with serato box. You cant get mad because you like Midi and the other person like timecodes. Some owners are djs and other owners see what is being used based on what the majortiy of the djs want. The best clubs have rotating djs and they switch laptops quick.
There are Djs that like using midi and other djs that preffer Tiemcodes. If the majority of the club djs preffer using timecodes, the owner of the club will get what the those djs want to use. If your a resident dj, You can use what ever you want if the you dont like the club setup.

I agree wholeheartedly but this thread is pointing towards something and is going somewhere.
I'm just curious where this road leads?

With the above being said, I will reiterate...
Do my best to make the software more user friendly.
I would do my best to make it "Plug and Play" with no strenuous configurations.
I would do my best to improve on sound quality and EQ.
I would do my best to improve Time code, both vinyl and CD.
I would do my best to have VDJ work seamlessly with Numark NS7.
I would do my best to have VDJ work on Mac as well as it does on Windows.
I would create a dedicated controller for VDJ that rivals the Numark NS7.
I would create a dedicated Soundcard for VDJ.
I would create a Pro Level edition of VDJ with a dedicated LOCKED controller that includes the soundcard that rivals the NS7 and any other controllers out there.
I would scrap all the different editions in favor of a limited edition and a Pro Level Edition. The Limited edition for use with multiple controllers and soundcards, The Pro Level edition for strict use with the Dedicated Locked Controller.
I would severely limit or completely do away with user made skins. Not that I don't like all the skins that have been created over the years by the extremely talented VDJ users, but to me, it takes away from the product rather than adds to it. I would make one GUI and make 2 or 3 slight variations of that skin. (UNIFORMNESS) I would take the best of all ideas from all the skins created and incorporate them into the existing GUI.
I would keep the user made effects but they would not be so readily downloadable. Instead, They would be standard in the Pro Level Edition.
After accomplishing all the above....
I would rake in the dough while sipping on a glass of champaign and brainstorming on how to improve on what I have already accomplished.
I would do my best to reform the perception of VDJ to a professionally recognized software designed for Pro use.
But that's just "me" though...

a "like button " this must be the only forum without a like comment button.. if you agree with some1s comment then you have to copy there whole comment and add to the thread instead of just liking it....
it would just speed up the forums and lower the size of the threads... just look back over this thread and you will see people agreeing with eachother but having to add the comment to like it.
oh and get onto to companies to work closer together with vj so you dont have to email both sides of the production scale if your controller aint working... example controller not working having to email vj and denon to try and figure out the problem... there is no overlaping between vj and production companies..
one email and being able to find the answer...
pay some intern to go through all of the threads and sort them buy manufractor ie everything with numark and everything with dennon..
so if people have a problem they just search the one forum... it would streamline your website....
[like] click..... lol

If I ran Atomix,Hmm, I would make Cyder answer his PM's ;) I would make him call his long time friends from digital DJ land......
Now that's out of the way, I would make it such that a fixed beat track could be used & everything placed on either of the two main decks would auto match to that BPM & Key. maybe it does this & I just haven't figured out how to do it? I would love this because I then wouldn't need to keep 20 mixes of various tracks. I could literally make my own remixes on the fly.

I would:
1- Definetly improve the internal EQ.
2- Work on multi-colored waves.
3- Make it look soft(And im talking about the skins as the faders and buttons does not look better than other softs when you move them).
I don't really think it is necessary to have a special controller by VirtualDJ. It would be nice though.
I was going to ask for more things but hey! I have a hercules rmx(which is reeaallyyy goood :) ). Better sound? I need a better sound card haha lol.
And I know I need a good video card but I don't think other softs need it! So think about it. But I don't know if u get my idea.
And about the reputation VDJ has... humm I don't care what people say. I just care about what I think and how i'm dealing with it.

Whaaat??? Hey come on! I bought the pro edition like many others. I don't think we'd like to have a limited edition after we had the pro... I mean I know it would be the same thing but a "limited edition user"??? haa no no. I don't agree with you.
Now, If you want that super edition why don't you call it "locked edition" or "VIP edition"???? Not pro edition. It already exists!

IF I Ran Atomix I would....
Day1: Buy out Serato
Day2: Issue an update with a Virtual DJ splash screen - just for kicks.
Day 3: Cease development.

one thing this topic does is throw a spotlight on the fork in the road .......
one way is hardware , the other way software .........
my opinion is that hardware in general will be a tougher sell all the time especially on anything
more than $500 .........
i do cool stuff with VDJ 7 PRO
BUT this doesn't REQUIRE expensive hardware .......
expensive hardware boxes are stand-alone and seem simpler in some ways .....
no operating system to be a problem ......
but they are VERY expensive and have there own considerable learning curves , so .....
they are becoming less and less attractive , especially the more expensive products ......
the middle ground of reasonable priced controllers paired with software will probably keep expanding in
the number of users .....
so a VDJ controller would put an end to that revenue stream .........
the current cross marketing works well
also cross marketing doesn't have to include hardware ..........(netsearch)
also ,anyone ignorant, with a 'tude about serato or traktor.....
would receive , free , with my compliments , a bowling ball with a VDJ logo , dropped on their foot

If I were Automix I would have a tool like FireText built into the interface as a native component and not a plug-in or add-on. Since Video is already built in, this would give professional DJ's using VDJ one of the most awesome tools natively. Anytime you can have native functionality inside an application its so much better than a plug-in.
If I were Automix I would redesign the bottom section of VDj with a more user friendly interface. Sometimes it can be cumbersome with any skin. A rework here could life VDJ to new heights.
If I were Automix the last thing I would seriously think about is rebranding only the Professional edition. I think VirtualDJ like stated several times is a great name for Home or Bedroom DJ's. The professional DJ's could benefit from a professional branding and I think it would give Automix and VDJ a much stronger market share with some changes as its truly imo the best tool to use, however the image is not as strong as some of the competition.
Stick with what you know and that is software development. Don't lose it and dive off into Controller design and other "Non-core" stuff. Take your ideas and work with someone that makes great controllers and have one branded with your product.
As a business consultant I do a lot of branding help for business on how to improve their image. I would be happy to lend my hand to this great product!! Cheers and keep up the GREAT work!!!

If I ran Automix I would purchase the OTS DJ company. Then incorporate their excellent varying velocity turntable into VDJ PRO. They are spot on in allowing you to slow the music down without pitch change and with minimal distortion when pitch is set very slow. Their built in limiter is also very nice. A merger would be fantastic.

Ummm... was that to me? My last post in this thread mentioned colorizing the database to prioritize music ranking "at a glance". But I admit having mentioned the low BPM warble in other threads. Sorry for the redundancy. I feel these are important improvements worth repeating till they are implemented. I am only trying to help guide VDJ to superior performance. I apologize.
Let me change gears then about what I'd do if I ran Atomix.
I would focus on the marketing. Watch Donald Trump's show "The Apprentice" and observe what the players do to establish brands, and enhance existing brands. Perhaps create a commitee of your top talent, and utilize their skills to have excellent and innovative results. Budget some money to give to the winner along with a 2nd and 3rd place.
Your team does a great job at the DJ shows. Video certainly is the next standard in DJ/VJing. Bring in good DJ/VJs (like myself :) (auditon before August to ensure quality)) to educate attendees how 4 decks can open your video creativity. Last year at Atlantic City went really well. You had the 4 decks and the 6 decks. I was impressed.
You have 99 decks to play with now. Develop a skin that can cue up these decks. I'm getting good on 4 decks, but I'm dumbfounded as to how I would use 99. Maybe Larry can figure it out. Teach us.
The marketing goal is to beat Serato & Tractor as the DJ standard. Perhaps an enhanced PRO level of software can be created that would be matched to specific equipment that would beat Serato at the reliability and latency game. Time coded vinyl is Serato's strength. Make VDJ's better.
Seek out endorcments from top DJ/VJs. Have a meeting with each one (on your dime), and set up their software pick along with VDJ. Compare them. Get feedback and hand it over to R&D. Then follow up, and push hard till the improvments get completed.
Keep after your VDJ Script documentation. Make it simple and very clear what the verbs do. Add at least 3 examples how each can be utililzed. Index the verbs in alpabetical order. There seems to be no pattern. Sorry again for the redundency in requesting this improvement, it just hasn't been completed yet.
Create and market a school where you can educate the young ones on how to DJ/VJ in all aspects. Educate on doing Mobile jobs from start to finish, and how to deal with clubs. Teach the young ones a career using your software.
Enough for now. Thanks for listening. Sorry for getting your dander UP.
Regards,
Jimmy L.

@ DJCity uniformness ? uniformity .... i have no life , so i notice these things ....
i was one of the users suggesting several editions and i think it is the right
way to go ........
i disagree also about the skins .....
i see no harm done ,in fact it's not possible inside of a relatively small dev team, to get this much
user input , so the skins are a great resource ...... and the best ideas end up in the company issued
default skins .......also , exactly like the new free updates ......if a skin or an update doesn't work for you,
just revert back to your previous configuration ......or fix it yourself .....
one of the details i used to ask for has been adopted .... the anchored headphone preview
so they definitely incorporate user ideas from the skins or wherever they may come from .....
having disagreed with City , i'd also like to say that i think he's onto something important when he says
it should be more associated with professionalism than it currently is ..........
i think that the support for so many controllers coupled with netsearch and the "come as you are" welcome to the
new users, is , and will continue to be, very successful .....
and yes .....i definitely did not believe that in the past
i think with these strategies in place , and the ways that they interlock .....
we will soon be the 800 pound gorilla in the room .......

This is why I love this community.
My friend chucknorrisyouwimp can spot my rather colored use of the English language, disagree with my views and be respectful at the same time.
Gotta luv it.
I understand the views of others on this topic. What may work for one person may not work for another.
What one person sees, another may not see.
If I ran ATOMIX......
I would surround myself with people infinitely smarter than I am.
I would make and hear suggestions, arguments and debates on where the company should go and how we should get there.
I would look at the data that would tell me if we are on the right path and if we are not, I would adjust accordingly.
I still believe in what I said but I am mature enough to realize that I may NOT be the smartest person in the room.

I do agree with JimmyL on the marketing. This is a key piece of making it Mainstream and for everyone to take notice that VDJ IS a professional DJ Software application.
