Looking at purchasing two 15" Yamaha speakers (S115V Club Series 15" 2-way). Any recommendations on an amp to power them? I have a QSC amp that I finally need to replace (QSC 1310) that I've been using for the past 14 years, so I prefer QSC (but am open to anything else). Also, I invested in some heavy duty Banana plug-1/4" cables so I'd rather stick with that setup, if possible.

Thx!

Yamaha always pissed me of with that "program handling" spec. I want to know what the continuous power handling is. My rule of thumb is if your speakers are rated at 500 watts continuous, then you need an amp that delivers at least 800 watts with low distortion. This way you amp can deliver the 500 watts of clean power, and have some head room for peaks. It's the distortion that generates heat, that blows speakers, not the power.

Yeah, I see what you mean...they call it "Power Handling"

* Larger enclosure for improved performance
* 15" woofer
* 2" titanium tweeter
* Frequency response: 55Hz - 16kHz
* Power handling: 500 watts program; 1000 watts peak (@ 8 ohms)
* Connectors: dual 1/4"; dual Speakon
* Sensitivity: 99dB
* Heavy duty front steel grill
* Sound dispersion: 90°h x 40°v
* Size: 19" x 28" x 15". Wt. 60.5 lbs.

I would get a Crown XTI 4000

@Charlie - Thanks for the sugestion.

Question: Is that too much power for these speakers? Price is kind of steep too @ $999.00.

Crown XTI 4000 -- $999.00
Minimum Guaranteed Power, 1 khz
Per Channel Both Channels Driven
Stereo, 2 ohms (per ch.) - 1600W*
Stereo, 4 ohms (per ch.) - 1200W
Stereo, 8 ohms (per ch.) - 650W
Bridge-Mono, 4 ohms - 3200W*
Bridge-Mono, 8 ohms - 2400 W

With 0.5% THD.
*With 1% THD

This game ain't cheap, you have to have decent speakers and amps if nothing else especially if your only going out with the one amp! don't want it to blow up!

650w @ 8Ohms is perfect isn't it? actually it doesn't sound like enough, 8Ohm is a drag.

I run a pair of 15's @ 8 just like you would and the knobs on the amp are a little over half way.

I have used the 4000 for subs and found it wasn't quite powerful enough however that's before I had two mixers wired in series :)

@ Pituffo. To be honest, i wouldnt recomend going thru all that of buying the two yamaha speakers and then buying a power amp. Amps pushing over 500 watts rms in 8 ohms per channel is expensive. Just get two Powered speaker instead. Mackie SRM 450 V2's, Qsc k12's, RCF Art 315a

RCF art 315a = 549 each
QSC K12's 699-799 each
Mackie SRM 450 V2 599 each.
