My preference has been Western Digital and Seagate but make sure you get more than 1 for back up purposes.

I use a Seagate Free Agent Go, and have an identical as a back-up. It has worked great for me thus far. You will hear people down on Seagate and Western Digital because of failure issues but keep in mind that these are the widest used HDs on the market so therefore they will have an increased sample market equaling more failures.
A bonus is that they are also widely available and don't need to be special ordered.

Those are the ones I have now a 250g WD and a 500g Seagate and I also have a 150g Buffalo, thay are all 2.0 USB. The Seagate I had for like 2 weeks and I am having problems with my Crates on Serato (I use Serato Crates on VDJ), keep losing the files neva had that problem with my WD. But I have a Macbook Pro and a Sony VAIO both have USB but one has firewire 400 and the other firewire 800....I don't do Videos but probably will do so soon. I jus wanna buy me a TB and use a 500g for my Music so right now I'm lost in the sauce....LOL.

LaCie Rugged. Hands down. This thing is portable and durable, it is designed with the mobile dj in mind (at least thats the way I use it) haha.
