I tried searching the topic archives and the FAQ's but didn't see this answered anywhere.
I am very soon going to be having gigs (I hope! ;) ) I now have speakers, and business cards have been ordered.
Monday I purchased two identical off-lease laptops for my fledgling company, so that I can have designated computers for my DJ work, rather than a old, tired personal laptop. I bought two because of the suggestions of other DJ's to always have backup equipment. I will have a backup ready in the car, should a drunk spill beer or knock over my rig.
Will I need to purchase two sets of VDJ, or will one license be ok, since the second machine is a designated backup?

Yes, as long as you're not using them both at the same time.

i got a better plan for my backup in future :-) why two laptop when a ipod touch along with djay software which comes for just $10 bucks and does the trick?

The End User License Agreement (EULA) allows you to have the software installed on up to two computers at any one time, providing that they are both for your own personal use and will not be used simultaneously (E.g: Second installation as a backup or for practising at home is OK, allowing a friend or another DJ to use it is NOT allowed.)
You may also uninstall the software from an old computer and then install it onto a new computer.
NOTE: If you intend to sell, give away or dispose of an old computer, you must remove VirtualDJ from it first.
Once purchased and registered, you can download the install file for the software again (If needed) from the Download Center: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/updates.html
That would cover you for a reboot of your main laptop, but if something major happens to your laptop, you may find it difficult to perform an entire gig off an iPod!

but 32gb would hold enough tracks to run a 5 to 6 hours of party wouldn't it?

Thank you for the replies. I'm glad to hear about the ability to pre-install on two systems.
I have a couple of other questions.
Will it run on Windows XP?
How big is the Professional version when installed? The off-lease computers are older, so the HDD is only 80 gigs. Maybe when I start making money, instead of spending, spending, spending, I will buy a bigger internal HDD.
When I buy the Pro version, can I access the special effects, and skins download area of the forum? Or do I need to buy a forum membership too? (i.e. "VIP Member", "Premium Member", "Pro Edition User")
Is the record pool thing part of the membership?

the premium membership is an excellent edition to any new dj biz ....
legal music from a huge library ,and it's integrated into the software
only 10$ per month and a legit business deduction
as for the small hd 's get an external hd or 2
also
wait for it
there is a thing called a desktop , much less expensive and much more practical
than a laptop ....
only advantage to a laptop is more portable
