When scratching with the RMX how do you stay on beat? Do I use the beat lock? I hope I explained it correctly. ;)
Thanks!
Thanks!

Really... Not to sound discouraging but you don't. The RMX is not designed for scratching. Even baby scratching is close to impossible on the RMX.

It's possible but don't try too hard to master it cuz it is damn near impossible.
I tend to try to stay away from scratch too much and there have been some times where I have just been lucky.
With practice it is possible. check out Dj Dow Jones, he has got it down real good.

Do you have tables hooked up or are you just using the rmx jogs? If just the jogs forget it, it really sucks.

You need something with touch sensitive jogs.

hoping to get the rmx soon but scratching not really my top point but if you do wan't to scratch you really need some touch sensitive jog wheels otherwise it will be of beat

scratching can be done with rmx it takes a lot of playing with settings and understanding what scratching moves can be done, on the rmx when u scratch u hear a very small pause of when the music starts back up making it not work for a lot of scratch movements, i use time code vinyl now for the most part. back spins work really well on rmx but besides that not much, go get a turntable hook it in rmx if u really want to scratch .

It's possible with the RMX! Check me out in the video of me scratching on mine. Pay close attention to the first 40 seconds or so and watch my hand position to see what I mean,

First thing you should do is go to your config, check the settings and get your jog sensitivity (including the Cue and bend) fix them to your liking! I have mine close to the top, but not all the way there. Also, go to your performance tab, fix your "Scratch" - Optimize for latency, Master tempo- PureScratch (No Master Tempo), Skin resizing- Fast resizing and finally 48khz conv- Fast resampling!
Okay, now time to PRACTICE! So you're going to take one song and put it both decks. Now if you're righty, play the music on deck 1, lefty on deck 2, this will help you get comfortable with your strong hang before mastering both hands. Now listen to the music prepare to scratch by finding the most comfortable spot for you on the jog wheel as if it were a turntable. Normally, I try to place my hand on my jog wheel at 10, 10:30, 11 o clock position. Try to scratch on tempo, when you find a spot you're ready to release, don't push forward, simply try releasing the jog on the back motion, but with catching the beat in mind to avoid it sounding like a cat screaming. As for your crossfader, if you're using it, be sure to fade in tune with the beat so it won't sound like you're back peddling.
There are many ways to scratch, but this is a great way to start before you pull out the super tricks.
The most important thing is to Practice, Practice, Practice! I have 26 years in this game, 24 using turntables and yes even I had to step and learn all over again how to scratch on a console. They say all consoles are not made for scratching, but to me if you put in the time, it's possible!
I will say upgrade to the 4-MX or to a Numark Mixtrack Pro, if you can afford to do so, Because they're better suited for scratching, but as long as you have the RMX, you can make the most of it.

+1 Huey, DJ Ace Cap & AC
Huey, I'll try to get that done for you, lol, appreciate that fam!
Ace, You must have watched the promo I did for my old radio show and The Coach K Nation is still going strong (Thanks to all my years as a life/sales coach and motivational speaker). But Yeah DJ Dow Jones is a beast on the RMX, I saw that video about 5 or 6 months ago and I'm still learning how to get my scratches down like that on my RMX.
AC, I told you, backflips and me = long hospital stays, lol! But I think you'll like the next one with me scratching blindfolded, that'll be out soon, so look for it, lol!
