Topic: What amp for my speakers?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I have a pair of JBL MRX 515, They have a power rating of: 400w RMS/800w Program/1600w Peak. Im currently running them with a Crown XTI4000 which puts out 650w per ch @ 8ohms. Im considering upgrading to the XTI6000 which puts out 1200w per ch @ 8ohms.

Im lookin for different opinions, should I make the jump or just stick with what I have?

mate why not add bins to your set up then you should get 12oow from xti at 4ohms this is my set up and works brilliant i use 700w fbt tops

Bins?? Elaborate, pls.

Hi mate

Staffy is refering to Sub bass speakers to add to the low end bass output of your system.

You could also look at a second pair of MRX units to increase the output. If you use your units on stands it can give you better coverage and more flexibility.

Another option is to get a second XTI 4000 and use one for each channel in Bridge mode. This would give you more than enough power and build in some redundancy. If one amp fails you can continue on the remaining amp. If you then want to expand by having bass bins you can re-configure the amps to run this with no problems.

OOOH Subs....LOL. Never heard them referred to that way.

I already have the MRX518s running with a bridged out XTI2000. AND a pair of MRX528s running and XTI4000 on each. :-)

@ DJ Select. 1200 watts Rms is too much for those speakers. I recomend 800-900 watts rms in 8 ohms. I just notcied that one amp is 650 watts and then Theres another amp that pushes 1200. Theres nothing in between the two. If you do buy the amp, make sure you dont crank it too high because you will blow the speakers.

Hi mate

Perhaps we should start again here.

What exactly are you running at the moment? If I understand you you currently have 2 XTI 4000 and 1 XTI 2000. 1 pair MRX 18" subs, 1pair MRX528's and one more pair of MRX 515 units. Is this correct?

JBL MRX 515's and Crown XTI 4000 is a perfect combination I'd say.

What's the problem, surley your not getting the clip light on? and if so I suspect that you have the setting wrong in the DSP, I use the XTI 4000 on a pair of 152's and their is more than enough headroom and that's through a RMX as soundcard which is noted for it's low output!
