Topic: What To Do..After Updating a Skin XML file

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi There

Can someone help me Out.

What do you do after you Modified the XML file of a Skin.

I've made a change in the code and saved it, but I still don't see the update on the Skin when I bring it up (use it).

What STEPS I'm I forgetting to do.

Thanks in Advance

well that depends on what it was you rewrote and many things.those it make a change or require a graphical change on the Bitmap file? or do have to to change the controllers syntax, midi mapping or ?? you need to be more specific.did you re-safe the xml file and overwrite the old? (you would see a popup requesting an answer to rewrite or not) im just wondering if in fact you are accessing the right file (is it name the same as the Bitmap?) ie= the one you've programmed ...

All I Did was,
I Reversed the order for Displaying the Name of the Song Playing from "%Author - %Title TO %Title - %Author"

I would think this is No Big Change.

YES, The Changes were Saved.

Thanks
Jose

You have to Zip the xml and the bmp file again and place that file at MyDocuments/VirtualDJ/Skins Folder. After that, goto config Skins Tab and choose that skin again.

THANKS DJdad

I zipped the XML & BMP files back to the proper Folders (Skin).

IT NOW WORKS..

BTW: If you don't zip the BMP file (I made no changes to this file), you Get an INVALID SKIN FILE (error line 0 in the XML) ERROR message (windows box).

Thanks again for your help.

I just installed Virtual DJ Pro 7.0.4 (I upgraded from a retail purchased Home Edition 6) and found out that none of my former skins were valid: all gave the "error line o" message! After an afternoon of trial and error I found out that the skin files (xml and bmp) now have to be compressed in one zip file.... and not by any random program either: Windows XP's internal zip utility, WinRar and 7Zip are no good. Only WinZip zip files are accepted by my version of Virtual DJ. Does anyone have the same experience?

Also: I have only been able to load the default skins that come with Virtual DJ. For testing purposes (to find out what program could make the right zip files) I unzipped and rezipped a default skin. I have made (and continuously improved) a TOUCH SCREEN SKIN with which I am very satisfied, but alas: it won't work with 7.0.4. Has anything changed in the scripting protocol that I should be aware of?

As soon as I get my skin working, I'll upload it. Maybe there is someone else out there who is like me (DJ-ing without any external hardware, just one single touch screen to do it all) and who will have some use for it too...
