Topic: Is my DeeJay name Okay? - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

Alright guys,

So I was thinking...If I am going to start DJ'ing, I need a DJ name! So I was thinking and thinking and came up with:
DJ $lim.

Does it sound okay? I made it that because I am really skinny and I didn't like DJ $kinny, so I did $lim instead. I also listen to like only Hip-Hop/Rap so I put a dollar sign.

Tell me what you think or other Hip-Hop DJ Names that aren't taken by anyone famous...

Thanks

-$lim (for now, anyways...)

Sure, DJ OK sounds good to me....

Not a bad DJ name. Not bad at all.

It works!

I like $kinny.

There's no rule that says you have to have "DJ" in your name either. I go by "the SOUND IN$URGENT"

Huey

I like $kinny myself... besides the VDJ forum already has a DJ Slim Cox.

Regards,
AC

I'm not a fan of spicing up some unoriginal name like "Slim" just by replacing letters with special characters/numbers or otherwise spelling it funny. If for not any other reason, people are sure to misspell it on posters etc. Also, it's not very memorable.

Instead try to come up with something truly original or at least something that have a clever word play. One of my all time favorite DJ-names is "Norman Beats". Get it? Like Norman Bates from Psycho, but Beats :)

And like others have said, ditch the useless DJ-prefix. Everyone in their mother is using it, so it's kinda pointless.

I would also like to add that the best DJ names are ones that are GIVEN to you. Mine was given to me by several workers at a club after a particular crazy incident with a club owner and a hammer....

I would also have to say that if all you are going to do is hip hop shows, then your music choice and DJ name will work. If you want to do a variety of gigs, then I would broaden your mind to ALL music.

Not that it matters, but I think if it is hip hop made in the last 5 years then it is $hit music. Or ring tone rap. Here today, gone tomorrow. A thug with a recording contract is still a thug.

If you plan to name yourself, I would suggest something that is about you or a part of you. Something that makes you you & that is fitting. A nickname that everyone calls you.

Also, look up the name, see how many deejays already have the name. I have had my name for about 26 years and I can tell you I see about 50 of me out there & I have been alive longer than some of these guys buyt they don't care, I don't own the rights to the name.

Just don't make up a BS name, make it meaningful.

I've always known that the rule of thumb is to have your friends pick a name for you. I got more votes for Ambient. It's not very original, but I haven't found many people with the name. Also, it's easy to remember and you can have come creative fun with the style. Not too long, not too short, and not your real name. No offence to the DJ's with their real names, but I think it looks so small town and uncreative.
I like DJ Skinny, but I wouldn't use the $. When I see the $, I think of Ke$ha. A $ isn't that creative and looks tacky (IMO), you can do better. Make up a fancy "S" that is more unique to make your name pop. DJ Skinny is good too because it seems more original; Slim is like Slim Shady - agian, you can do better.
Maybe a foreign name? French for thin/slim is "mince", pronounced "mahns". It will be a little more difficult to remember, especially the spelling, but it is unique and people will ask you what it means which is a great conversation starter. I have people ask me all the time about my name and what it means.

These are just a few ideas.

Happy choosing!

My mother picked my "DJ" name. Moms are very smart people. (Unless she had named me Oscar)
"DJ Oscar" would have been painful.

Mine was given to me a long time ago in a galaxy far away. Around the same time as Ace Cap1... and it's the same name. It happens.

I go under the name gullum but almost every time I'm on a poster they've put DJ Gullum on there. and you name is just fine makes me think of eminem so I guess it fits well with hiphop/rap.

the name gullum came from a friend who was reading the hobit by Talkien to his little sister. Instead of reading Gollum he said Gullum

Oh my gosh everyone! You guys were so helpful. I didn't expect this many replies... I still haven't decided what I am going to do but here is one thing I wont do: I decided not to use the $ in any of my future names. It actually does seem tacky and kiddish. I might do Skinny in Spanish (Im Puerto Rican) so it would be like DJ Delgado, or something like DJ Flaco. I took your advice DJ renee, I asked my mom! She just made something off the top of her head and said DJ To Go or DJ 2 Go. I think it sounds weird but I dont know... When I officially decide my name, I will make a forum to let you guys know!!!

-DJ Skinny, DJ Delgado, DJ Flaco, DJ ToGo, (for now anyways....)

Peace

Delgado has my vote!

Delgado is also a last name, Don't know if you want people thinking that's your last name.

Funny that you're "Torres" so am I. I decided against DJ Torres cuz there's already a million and 2.

My nickname since childhood has been Tohte (pronounced Toe - teh) but I didn't want that family name to be out in the public. Since I'm costa rican also many people call me "Tico" so, I started with DJ Tico, but then saw that there was already a few DJ Tico's out there. Ticoindamix was the final draft.

Now people call me DJ Tico anyways, so I guess I don't care.

True, true... Delgado is a last name! =( They probably would think its my last name. Hm...

(still deciding...)

I'm CRash. I was CRash before I starting djing. When I started to DJ, I asked my friends what my name should be. They all said "Well, you're CRash, so it should be DJ CRash." I know they are other DJ CRashs out there, but that's who I am. The double caps was an error a long time ago on a message board and it stuck. So, I didn't get to pick my name, it just happened. The same way that I think DJ Skinny just happened.
