Topic: Video and Audio simultaniously what is the experince?

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello,
Curious to know who is doing professional level DJ mixing and adding video clips on top of tracks. (not music videos, but playing audio tracks and then separate video tracks simultaniously)

Is anyone doing this on a MAc? on a PC? how have you experienced this? is the program stable? is the sound affected? crashes? I want to know if this is a PROFESSIONAL level option to use video not just an aside to the audio program.

thanks in advance for your feedback.

It depends what you want from the program.

VirtualDJ is primarily a DJ program not a VJ program. A lot of VJ programs don't come close on the DJ side of things and having the video functionality gives an extra level of ability to VirtualDJ. The program itself can play video files, linked video clips, one shot or looped videos from video clipbanks, display pictures, visualisations and video transition and effects. This linked with it's scripting language and advanced MIDI/HID support coupled with the ability to have up to 99 decks certainly does open up more options on the VJ side of things.

Personally I use it professionaly, but primarily for audio with the above video features. That said I run all manner of testing plugins and such and have had absolutely no stability issues.

Thanks for your reply (and sorry about cross posting:)

Sorry if I am being obtuse, or dense, or not fully understanding your response:::::

What I understand is that VDJ is a robust audio DJing program.
Video clips can be mixed and projected without affecting the audio quality or functionality of the program.

BUT
video is not the main goal of the program its more of a bonus or extra?

PS
I hve been DJing professionally for 16 years and also do video art so I really do want a program that can merge these interests, but my fear and concern is that the video will crash the program and / or make the audio sound bad.

It will play music videos and audio tracks. You can link video clips to audio tracks as well. Example of what I use is mpeg2 and mp4 music videos that play the video and audio track. I also use mp3s. We can link a video clip of almost anything to play on the screen with any given mp3 and it does not affect the audio at all.

Hope this helps.

Personally I wouldn't say it was the main goal - but it's certainly a key feature.

As I said it has extensive capabilities, but without knowing what you want to accomplish it would be difficult to say whether or not it can do what you require.

As a basic overview you can mix, loop, scratch and generally manipulate audio-only tracks, video tracks and video-only tracks independently of each other and the multi-deck setup means you could set up decks to your exact requirements on top of the built in audio and video samplers.

It's also extensible via it's own API and is a FreeFrame host too.
