hello there
i have been using virtual dj home (free edition) for 6 months now and im mostly likely on it everyday messing around with songs playing on song the switching it to the next, matching bpm, looping, adding effects etc etc. I love virtual dj and i believe i could comfortibly play a set playing songs continously switching songs into each other making it sound smooth, adding some effects, loop abit but nothing serious - what i mean by that is no serious mixing or slightly resttucturing a song. But i'd like to make that step where i can mix songs change there beat and basicly go to the next step. So do i need to by a more advanced programme of VDJ? Or do i need to get some begineer decks?
Please reply - any advice would be brilliant :)
Thanks

You can do everything you want to do in the Home edition of the product but only with a mouse and keyboard. Use the crossfader and volume sliders with the mouse to achieve your mix. If you're looking into a controller to make your mix, "Home" doesn't support midi controllers.
You will either need to buy a controller that comes with VDJ LE or upgrade to the Pro version.

Ok sweet
Can you give me a website or names of some controllers which will sync with my VDJ? Also will that controller allow me to remix the tune of song or will it do other stuff?
thanks

With the free home edition you can midi controllers or timecodes for up 10 mins. then it'll reset it self. So like AC said you can test out everything with the free home edition. You won't be givin access to skins or effects and this is for obvious reasons, lol!
Hope to see you as a PRO user soon

I say... Get a controller for virtual DJ, use the LE version for a while and IF you like it or find that LE is too limited, get PRO!!
And if you want to just get Virtual DJ Pro, get the Hercules MK4(its around 150$) and then get a 150$ discount on VDJ Pro so you literally get the MK4 FREE!!!
Anyways.. get a software controller first, then look at VDJ PRO.

Recently purchased the VDJ software with the premium membership... all the bells and whistles! Downloaded a couple of new songs to the computer on my Microsoft mediaplayer (that's the way i've been doing it for years) and now when i open my VDJ program the new playlist is not there!!?? What's the solution??

I have the American Audio VMS4 and absolute love it and I do recommend it. But it does depend on if your next step is going fullblown DJ or just to play around some more. you will need something with 2 separate out puts so you can listen what is playing in the muted deck while the other song plays.
@mcsexy you input to this thread has nothing what so ever to do with the original questions of the topic
I don't have windows anymore but I've read that you need to move the playlist into the playlist folder.. it should be in documents/VirtualDj/playlist or something similar

As for me, I have a Denon MC6000 and I absolutely love it. Its all personal opinion and how much you are willing to spend. Ill tell u two tips that really helped me get the controller I wanted at the best price possible. First, however, look at the hardware site that someone above me linked to you and make a list of about a couple that you like. Once you know, look at proaudiostar.com for pricing. Theyre the best. You can email or call them and they'll save you a lot more money than listed. Even negotiate a little like I did.
Ill give you my suggestions for controllers on the different price ranges:
$0 - $300 ----- HERCULES RMX. If youre on a tight budget, I feel like this is the best controller to go with. With a built in soundcard, you can preview songs and control VDJ like you wanted.
$300 - $500 ----- American Audio VMS4. These are very good for the price as the guy above me said. I almost went for one of these but I had the money to get something even better so I did. Again, built in soundcard and controls VDJ even better.
$500 - $800 ------ Denon MC6000 or Vestax VCI-300. These are some of the best controllers you can buy right now. Like I said, I own an MC6000 and I love it. Both have built in soundcards and the MC6000 can control 4-decks in VDJ.
Hope this helps,
MACK

@MACK
thank you mate this is brilliant help, unfortunately im from england and i assume the proaudio website you gave me is for US only and i bet the delivery for the UK would be painful. But i will look at the three controllers you suggested i have also come across a controller i like the look of and its the Herules mk4 i was considering the mk2 but the mk4 looks like you get that little bit more. What you think about me getting the mk4?
Once again though thanks for the advice and to all the others who have commented this is much appreciated

Hi babe, if your seriously thinkin ov getting a MK2 or MK4 then save up just a little more and go for the RMX, its much better (performance and build quality) Its very versitile and is AMAZING FUN!!!
i got mine from Decks.co.uk and it cost only a wee bit more than a MK4 (about £100 more) but i really think its worth it.
XXXSeanaXXX
Oh yes and get the pro software asap as its much better and more stable too.

You will need to browse to the folder(s) where they are located, right-click on them and choose Add to search DB
NOTE: VirtualDJ does not support Windows Media Player's database or playlist format.

Funny you say that Will because the first controller I bought was an MK4 and although it was great, I needed one to take to gigs and the MK4 just honestly seemed too much like a toy for me. It all depends on where you plan on taking this great hobby. If you would like to make some money from it, then I suggest doing what Seana said and saving up the extra cash for an RMX. If you just plan on keeping it as a hobby for your own entertainment, then the MK4 would be just fine. It definitely does all the basic things well except for the pitch control. The pitch is a knob rather than a slider, which doesnt let you be nearly as precise as it could be. Again though, it all just comes down to what it will be used for.
Hope this helps,
MACK

@MACK - How you liking that MC-6000? I have been waiting on the NS6 to release but am thinking I can't wait any longer. My VCI-100 is awesome but even when mapped for 4 channels, it's not quite the same as a 4 channel controller.
Thanx in advance for any insight you can offer me.

I use the RMX as a backup and a Hercules 4-MX for my primary. Between he 4-MX and full VDJ version there isn't much I can't do.
Posted Mon 07 Mar 11 @ 5:31 pm
Hey Super, its kind of like what Crazy Eights said about the 4-MX. With the MC-6000 there is literally nothing I cant do in VDJ. I highly recommend it to anyone, with the ability to control 4 decks so easily. The only reason I really use VDJ is for picking the songs and thats controlled with the center knob and buttons of the MC6000.
There are two main reasons why I would recommend it:
- Assuming you are in the US, it was built for Virtual DJ, meaning that it works seamlessly and I like I said there are even buttons on it to switch the tab you are in VDJ, from browser to effects to record. And if Im not mistaken, the NS6 was built for Serato.
-Secondly, everything is right there. There are buttons on the MC6000 for youre loops, 4 different cue points, samples, and EFX knobs that come in really handy. So like I said, the only reason Im looking at the screen is for the songs, no need to even use my mouse.
Like I said before to Will, if youre going to get it, I recommend proaudiostar. They have a flight case for it as well made by odyssey which is perfect. I purchased the flight case and the MC6000 for less than the retail of the MC6000.
Hope this helps and feel free to post or PM me with any specific questions,
MACK

@Mack - I think you're converting me here! The NS6 was built for Serato, yes, but I wanted those nice large platters for scratching. The Dennon unit looks more tailored to VDJ and of decent construction and has more options than the Numark unit. I just need to find a display model to put my hands on one and convince me by feel.
Posted Mon 07 Mar 11 @ 7:56 pm
Well yes, Im not going to lie to you, the touch sensitive jog wheels may be great for controlling the track but the ability to scratch is difficult. But you can always throw in a turntable or two into ur setup if the time comes

That is one downside to the 4-MX there are not any racks for it. Which causes me a slight problem at 6'6". As far as I know there is only a oddyssey flight case out the 4-MX is slightly bigger than the RMX so the rack ears will not work. Im hoping they come out with something with A little height to it. Don't need to much with the Odessey table I use. But just so you know that is a flaw in the 4-MX to me or at least the Rack makers. Looks like Im gonna have to build my own. Wouldnt be the first time...lol.
