Topic: AMDKMDAG

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

SYMTOMS:
It seems every Saturday at 1.02am my laptop suffers a big performance hit and the Windows 7 Aero theme is replaced with a more basic theme and requires a re-boot where everything then seems to be ok again. This performance hit can be heard quite obviously in the music being played at that time.

OTHER INFO
Windows System Logs "AMDKMDAG 62464 DVD_OV" at the exact time.
Everytime I have seen this issue; "AMDKMDAG" has been logged 3 to 8 times.

I have tried many different ATi/AMD driver versions and only install the actual driver not the CCC. All seem to have the same issue.

There are many forums reporting a problem with AMDKMDAG, but none say anything about the windows theme changing, only about the performance hit and that "AMDKMDAG" gets logged 100s of times in a very short period of time (where mine is 'only' 3 to 8 times). Also they suggest is seems to be linked to playing movies. I get the problem when only playing WAVs and MP3s.

My laptop only has Windows 7 (64-bit), VDJ (Veriosn 7.02 PRO), and ASIO drivers installed.

Does VDJ call this program/service? Does anyone else here have this issue?

It always happens at the same time which makes me think a program is scheduled to do something which causes the issue. It also makes testing very difficult as it will only show up once a week at a time I am normall DJing...!!!

Many Thanks
Gary

I'd strongly recommend running with Aero off anyway - it can cause problems with the dialogs in VDJ under some circumstances.

VDJ isn't calling it - it's a driver issue I'm afraid. Does the error go away if you uninstall CCC?

If you can get through all the 'bs' in the below thread then you might have an understanding of what is going on and how to possibly remedy the situation.

I thought we were the only forums that had conversations like that :)

Hope it helps you .... but as SBDJ stated, it is a problem created by ATI and their Catalyst engine.
