so i took my new laptop off its bench earlier after spending hours tweaking it and installing everything i needed to.
gave it a clean and went to put it back....as i went to plug in the charger i accidently pressed some pathetic button that boots some piece of crap software called acer arcade.
this piece of crap software has installed itself as a c: partition and forced my os into a d: partition so now it wont boot. ive been sat for the last 3 or 4 hours bashing away and trying all sorts of crap to get it back in order.
vista recovery disk dont work
acer recovery dont work
and a thousand other things dont work.
what a pack of BS......
no way am i going to phone acer either because ill end up with some gimp telling me to turn it off and back on again.
anyway ive managed to get a chkdsk running and its working some magic on invalid entries at the moment so with a bit of luc i will be able to get some sort of access to either my os or one of the recovery consoles.
i have no idea why the acer arcade thingy crashed the os but im not the first person its happend to acording to google.
sooooo if anyone else has an acer arcade button on their laptop, then disable it, NOW. you really dont want this happening. it looks like im going to have to do a full fresh install. and everyone hates that.
rant over...

A fresh install is awesome in your case, you just got the thing a couple days ago and don't know where it's been really.
Re-format, install, tweak then ad VDJ. Keep it simple!

very true, though it had been factory reset before i tweaked and installed everything.
now i can even access the recovery partition. for some reasoon the acer arcade system has re-assigned all the drive letters and made everything inaccessible.
ive been playing around trying to get the drive letters changed using a vista recovery disk and a dos prompt but for some reason the partdisk function wont re-assign the drive letters. next im going to try and delete the acer arcades mock C:drive and see if the drive letters get automatically re-assigned.
i want to find a solution to the problem before i fresh install incase it ever happens again and so i can post a write up on the net.

Hi babe, i just googled Acer Arcade and came up with a question asking what it was and wether it is neded and the answers all pretty much said delete it...
...so, cant you uninstall it and delete it??? I assume you thought ov this though... but if not, then try it, it may just work.
This is a forum post on uninstalling it...
"Depends on what OS. I an assuming Vista.
Start>Control Panel>Programs...
Select Acer Arcade and Uninstall will be come available at the top of the column.
If XP, Start>Control Panel> Add and remove Programs...
Select and click uninstall..."
Sounds simples enough...

yup, it would be that simple......if i could boot into windows in the first place.
the piece of crap software decided to re-assign all the drive letters making the windows partition un useable. i managed to get the windows partition lable back to c: but it still wouldnt boot into windows.
ive ran the backup discs and its doing its final bits and pieces now.
not sure quite what its doing but it seems to be taking its time to install the e recovery manager part of the acer software. its been running for over an hour. looks like im just leaving it and playing on my netbook instead for the time being.
once it "eventually" finishes i need to reinstall
vdj
traktor
serato
cubase
ableton
webcam
avira av
malwarebytes
drivers for about 10 usb devices.
then tweak it to perfection and raise my score back to its peak.
not a happy bunny today.....grrrr...

yeah its vista :(
on all my other vista boxes ive not had that many issues. i find if you strip it practically bare and run it on minimal crud. then it stays stable.
i will eventually put 7 on it but not just yet. i want to save for my next 2 items.
a maya44 usb and vdj pro upgrade. thats actually what i was saving for untill i saw the laptop. i felt i should bag it while i had the chance.

I think its funny when people bash Vista cause I run it and never have removed ANYTHING from it!! I spin videos all night with effects and timecodes with a midi mixer and korg nanokontrol running. I run all my soundcards at the lowest latency possible aswell as VDJ itself. The only problem I've had is with Firetext and im not really worried about that. It has been nothing but good to which is way I haven't went with 7, if it ain't broke don't fix it!!

my last system was Vista and i did brag about how well it ran .....
video plus fx , plus FireText connected with bluetooth ...
(i didn't have the RMX until just b4 it died)
however it was lousy getting used to and the video had problems at first
also took forever to boot and shutdown
if it's all smooth for ya though , don't change a thing

i need to get a usb soundcard and see how it copes with timecodes yet, but so far its proving its worth, then some.
i think ill upgrade the ram at somepoint to 800 or 1066mhz as its only got 677mhz or something. just so i get that bit extra umph...
start up time is actually really good. ive disabled a shed load of crap that increases boot time. the only startup items i have is my av and my hercules software.
ive stripped out all the crap that acer supplies with its laptops and done away with aero features, all windows sounds, indexing, animations, sidebar, gui boot screen, replaced the logon screen background with a simpler lower resolution picture etc.etc..........
so its running pretty sweet as it happens. :D i did think about using the classic menu style too but it just looked silly. and to think we all thought it was the best graphical user interface ever when windows 98 arrived. lol.
ahhhhh the good old days.
