Topic: Skip When Drawing Waveform

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I am having a problem with the audio skipping when I am in automix mode and I select a track to "mix now" other than the one that is next in line. It happens fairly consistently and I'm afraid that it is going to make VDJ unusable for me.

Currently I am evaluating VDJ by using the "home" version with just the built-in audio on my MBP. I have video set to DISABLED and my master tempo is set to "Fast Stretching" in case either one of those makes a difference. I am running VDJ Home 7.0.2 (b347) on OS X 10.5.8. My laptop is a MacBook Pro with a 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo and 3GB of DDR2 SDRAM.

I'm a Torx/Xponent user normally but I'm finding that there are several things about VDJ that I like and I'm considering switching but not if I can't keep the audio from skipping. I've never had an audio problem with Torq even using spaces to run TextEdit and Firefox in other virtual desktops at the same time so I would hope that VDJ would be able to play audio without skipping when it's the only thing running!

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated, thanks!

To update my topic I've tried turning off bluetooth, wifi and my menu bar meters and the Netsearch functionality and I still get the skips. I have also tried all of the different transition types but that didn't make a difference either. All of the tracks in the playlist have been analyzed for BPM previously.

I noticed that if I let it go ahead and auto-mix the next song in the playlist (the one that it loads automatically and that already has the waveform drawn) it does not skip at all.

I have a party gig on Saturday, was hoping to have enough time to practice and then buy VDJ Pro and use it there but early on in the evening I was planning on using the auto mix and throwing in requests so I could hang out before things really get going. I'm open to any suggestions to fix this issue!

Ok, so I've tried this on 2 Macbook Pros and a Mac Mini and I get the same results every time. Can someone else give it a try on their Mac with the onboard sound and let me know if you get the same result? I can't believe it's just me - maybe it's something in the air...

Hello,

I have the same result on my Macbook Pro 15" i5 2,53GHz with 8GB Ram.
Load Track Freez and Automix the same. But Sound have no Dropouts. But i also have this a little bit on my second Windows Laptop!
It's a known bug... so let's hope it will be resolved in a future release!

No resolution yet, I've been getting some responses from support but it's slow going and no fix as of yet. I can reproduce it on any Mac that I try, desktop or laptop.

Big matt,

I might have a solution for you i have a similar problem But i fix it since you have a mac they told you o no a mac wont get slow or get cookies and stuff like that which every dj needs to know there Dj computer needs to be clean and mac does get stuff on it that needs to be cleaned

1st open your applications folder and then go to utilities
2nd then once open click on disk utility (it should show a disk with a stethoscope)
3rd click on the drive that is in your mac
4rth Then it will highlight it and 4 tabs will come up make sure it is on FIRST AID MAKE SURE IT IS NOT ON ERASE BECAUSE YOU WILL FORMAT YOUR WHOLE DRIVE IF IT IS ON THE ERASE TAB
5th on the FIRST AID tab CLICK verify the disks permissions
6th once its done under it it should say repair DISK permission's click that
7th wait for it to finish erase the history and your done VDJ and your mac should run a little better and smoother
Hope this helped
P.S. on firfox or safari clear your recent history aka tracking cookies :)

Unfortunately I've tried Repair Permissions and it didn't help but thanks for the idea!

Ahh i see :(

My ticket with the Virtual DJ people isn't going anywhere so I'm going to appeal to this forum for some help replicating the problem. Can anyone give it a try for me and tell me about your results?

To replicate the issue first make sure all your songs that you are going to use in this test have been analyzed for BPM. Drag 3 songs into the automix queue and click the button to start the mix. It should start playing the first song and draw the waveform for the next song in the list automatically. Now right-click the 3rd song in the list and select "mix now". On 3 different Macs I get the exact same small drop out in the currently playing audio that starts when Virtual DJ first renders the waveform for the song.

I'm hoping that if enough people can replicate the issue that the Virtual DJ people will at least acknowledge that an issue exists and hopefully fix it. Thanks in advance to anyone that is willing to take the time to try this out for me!

just tried it and yes it had a small drop in sound some mil sec of no sound tried on my iMac and Macbook. iMac using m-audio firewire solo soundcard macbook using reloop play and they bout did have this skip. but it won't be a problem for me fortunately I never use the automix future. but it is a problem if used in live situations.

PS. I have an old windows laptop and tried to do the same on it and there were no skips in the sound.

Thanks for trying it out gullum. I tried it earlier today on my Windows 7 laptop and it didn't skip either so it's definitely something wrong with the Mac version of VDJ.
