Topic: VDJ and Itunes library

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all.

Hoping someone will have the answer I am looking for.

I use Itunes at home to organize all of my music. I have the names, artists and genres all filled in correctly on all songs.

I have just gone into the Itunes folder and copied all of the songs from 'itunes media' (which comprises of hundreds of folders with the songs inside) and have copied them across to an external hard drive to take into work and use on their system which also obviously runs VDJ.

What is the best way to link it to the works machine? I can find the directory on the left pane and go from there but if I search by Genre, it don't pick anything up. Any ideas of a better way to sync it?

Also the machine at work doesn't have itunes on, if I installed it, would it be possible to link the songs on my portable hard drive to the itunes on the work system and run it through VDJ as if the songs where on the systems itunes itself? ie get the 'itunes' option on the laft folder pane and scan through playlists and such?

You will need to add the music to your VirtualDJ database.

To do this, use the VirtualDJ browser to browse to the drive(s) and/or folder(s) where the music is located, right-click on the folder and choose Add to search DB.

Also, make sure that the files are tagged and named correctly (In Artist - Title format), otherwise they will not show correctly in the VirtualDJ browser.

When using an external drive, the database will be stored locally on that drive, so it can be hot plugged between different computers running VirtualDJ with the database information still intact.
