Topic: Numark Mixtrack Question

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I just recently got a Numark Mixtrack controller. I'm completely new to djing and was wondering what I need to cue.
I'm on a MacBook Pro running Traktor Pro. My current setup is,
Mixtrack running in through USB,
FireWire output to hub (which also has a hard drive connected) then to a Firepod,
Two 1/4" outputs from the Firepod to two krk powered 6s.

After trying, I've noticed that the firepod only has two outputs, which I'm using for the speakers, and it does not count the headphone jack as a separate output so I can't cue.

So I was wondering if anyone could help me out finding an interface or something that I can use to cue, but still have use of my monitors through the Firepod.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You will need the latest VirtualDJ Pro v7.0.2 to use the MixTrack (Unless you have the version that includes free VirtualDJ LE): http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html

You can try out the MixTrack before purchasing for 10 minutes in VirtualDJ Home FREE: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/free.html

NOTE: After 10 minutes, Home FREE will revert back to mouse and keyboard control only until you next restart the software.

This is the VirtualDJ forum for VirtualDJ software.

For help with Traktor, please ask in their forums.

To be able to pre-listen to music in VirtualDJ using headphones, you will either need two sound cards or a sound card with multiple outputs, such as a 5.1 surround sound card or preferably a dedicated DJ sound card (E.g: Numark DJIO or Native Instruments Audio 2 DJ.)

With a laptop, you can add a USB stick sound card that will provide you with the additional output that you need.

Alternatively, you can use a single sound card and the mono split option in VirtualDJ's sound setup, however this will only give you MONO sound. You will need a splitter cable to split the left/right channels - Please search Google for: 3.5 jack splitter to mono

Once you have suitable sound card(s), you will then need to go into VirtualDJ CONFIG -> Sound Settings and choose Outputs: Headphones and select the appropriate sound card(s).

I apologize, I just figured that this would be a very good place to ask since I haven't really come across any other forums.

Thank you for the help nonetheless. I just ordered the NI Audio 2 DJ and am going to try routing one of the 1/4 outputs into my Firepod's line in then use that to go to my monitors, then use the other 1/4 from the Audio 2 DJ for cueing.

Thank you very much for the advice, I appreciate it.

I just tried out the Home version of Virtual DJ and may be purchasing it pretty soon.

Thank you again.

Please don't post in ALL CAPS - This is considered shouting and bad etiquette by many Internet users. Please see the forum rules.

Your MixTrack doesn't have a headphone jack because you have purchased the cheaper non-Pro version that does not have its own built-in sound card. This is designed and intended for users who already have their own DJ sound card and don't need this added expense. Their existing sound card may also be higher quality than that built into the MixTrack Pro model.

Assuming that you have VirtualDJ LE for MixTrack (Please register its serial number on your profile page and then make sure that you have the most recent version installed from your Download Center) then you should be able to use your Audio 2 DJ. Simply choose the following in CONFIG -> Sound Setup:

Inputs: None
Outputs: Headphones
Sound card: Choose the Audio 2 DJ in the drop-down list.

Click APPLY.

If you get an error about not enough channels, you may need to configure the Audio 2 DJ in MacOS for 4 channel audio - Please see: http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/Configure%204%20channel%20audio%20on%20Mac.html

Now connect a pair of amplified stereo speakers to the first output of the Audio 2 DJ and your headphones to the 2nd output. If you wish to play your music through the speakers built into the MacBook, please see http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VirtualDJ%20LE%20sound%20through%20computer%20speakers.html
