Hi Everyone.

I've got to say that this christmas has got to be the worst ever for work ;( so many canceled due to poor bookings and not enough people to fill venues. What about everyone else ONLY uk please. I am based in West Sussex down on the coast so would love to hear from other DJ's who have had the same problems if any.

Mike,

I've not had many mobile bookings in December which is unusual, but those I have had have been affected by the weather - but not because it's been impossible to get to, but because it's a convenient excuse not to go!!!

I travelled 50 miles through snow and ice to get to a gig, bet set up on time, but only to find half the people didn't show 'cos they said they couldn't get there... Really!!!!

In the club, the only nights that are working are the cheap nights - free entry and £1.50 drinks. Charge any more and people stay away.

But there is a bigger underlying problem here - the supermarkets. It's cheaper to stay in or drink in doors then go out already half cut. Our local council have banned happy hours and ultra cheap nights to try and stop binge drinking - what they don't get is that the pubs and clubs have to charge so little to tempt people out. No one is binge drinking in town, it's all being done at home and the pubs and clubs are left to pick up the pieces...

The problem is the supermarkets are now too powerful and the Government won't step in to control the prices. No wonder a pub a day closes in the UK!!!

Just to give you an idea. Our local Tesco is selling crates of most lager for £7 each. Ok it's a 15x440ml can crate but that works out at £1.66 a pint. How can the pubs and clubs compete???

Sorry, will stop ranting now...

Hi y'all

I live in King's Lynn in Norfolk, and although I dont Dj professionally myself, iv got mates that do. It seems that we have a different case here, because I live in a smallish town, we only have two clubs so as soon as the holidays hit and the uni students are back then the place is rocking!! It has been really busy, however the other way of looking at it is that in my town there are few places to go in terms of clubs so people dont really have too much of a chocie of where to go. Me and a few friends have travelled to the likes of chelmsford and stevenage (1hr 45min drive) to sample other nights out. Along with the options of Cambridge and Norwich where I live, people seem to be travelling around more in search of cheaper (possibly), better nights out!

From another point of view I work for a mobile bar company and we have been non stop over christmas, and in most cases we are in a venue which has had a mobile disco booked. After chatting to them they have been really busy, but on the bar takings side of things we are struggling a bit due to higher brewery prices and cheaper supermarkets.

Hi babes,
I'm in Brighton which is usually toitally rocking but we're down here too... nowt interesting happening AT ALL...

Its the usual big clubsthat are packed but they are so xpensive that none ov my mates can afford to go(so its just full ov students spending either their arents cash or their attendance allowance).
Loads stay in and get pissed there instead, free parties are dead (due to a crackdown by Sussex Police, although i imagine that with all the cutbacks they may find it a better use ov resources in the future, to actully go after criminals not party goers)

Oh well, watch this space. Maybe the FREE party scene is due to erupt again... hopefully.
