Topic: Selecting which deck for Karaoke to play on

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi!

In Virtual DJ, im currently using the 4 decks skin. I also use the Karaoke feature which is fantastic however, what i want to do is dedicate one deck to music and the other three to karaoke. However, a friend of mine has virtual dj, and when i tried this on his PC, i couldnt do it, all it kept doing was stoping the track i was playing to the crowd and loaded the Karaoke file. However, he doesnt use it for karaoke so he didnt know what to do either. Could this be done? i dont want to upgrade from my PCDJ DEX then to find out that i cannot do this, also if it can, how can i do this? id like to try it on his first before i decide to purchase!

Please Help!!

Yes, I would like to know this as well.

I have a 'background - filler' track playing in one deck and when I click NEXT to load the next Karaoke file, it stops the track playing and loads the Karaoke song into the same deck. How do I get it to load into the empty deck so that I can cue it etc?

I have tried this with both decks and it is the same.

I cannot find a setting that controls this.

Someone please help.

BUMP !

I need this sorted by Saturday please.

Anyone ?

someone on here advised me to use the automix browser (on the right hand side) to use for loading up 'filler tracks' in between karaoke songs.
I tried it and it worked well !

go to config (vdj) options, make sure 'security' is set to 'ask'. this will stop tunes/songs stopping the ones already playing on a deck.
vdj will ask if you drop a tune on a deck thats already playing 'are you sure' ?

good luck sat ;)

I know this is late reply, but I hope someone will benefit from it.

I host karaoke 5 nights a week for 14 years. I do consider myself an experienced professional. I will answer your question shortly.
The first thing I do on a gig is grab a bunch of tracks. Toss them into the PLAYLIST on the right. Drag a song to deck 4. Move your video slider to the right side. Play deck 4 THEN hit the green auto play button in the PLAYLIST. This will then give you an endless supply of non-stop music on deck 4 mixing into itself.

Next, is to I activeate the SBJ Text Scroller (downloaded from VDJ website) with pre-loaded scrolling messeges to describe where we are at, how to request a karaoke song and any food/beverage/Events happening.

Next, I activeate the Karaoke request box. I created a smaller karaoke request box than the one supplied by VDJ. It fits nicely below and inside your playlist. Since you already have the playlist running, this section of the screen is not being used therefore its a good place to keep the karaoke request box. Now you can see all four decks, you have non-stop background music playing and you can search and drop tracks into the karaoke request box.

NOTE: The request box, loads tracks wherever the VIDEO SLIDER is facing AND to the deck selected. So, if like me, you like to keep everything on the right side, select deck 2 and place the VIDEO SLIDER on the right. Hit the NEXT button on the karaoke request box (assuming you put a song in there) and it will load to deck 2. I now use deck 1 as a pre-listen/cue deck, all all night long.

When Deck 2 Karaoke song is finished, I gently lift volume slider for deck 4 and bring up the background music. Hit NEXT on the karaoke request box and your next singers song is loading. Careful, you have to pause that deck or it will play.

Keep a steady pace at this and your night will run smoothly with little to no dead spots. Practice this at home. You'll get the feel of it in a short time.

[Sorry, we do not allow 3rd party file sharing - If you would like to share your request box add-on with the rest of the VIrtualDJ community, please upload it to our add-ons downloads area for review: http://www.virtualdj.com/addons/index.html ]

Basically the answer is in the note area of the previous post. The karaoke plugin loads the next song into the active deck. So make sure you click back to the deck you are using for karaoke songs before you click for the next singer/song.
