Hi there,
I have spent alot of time looking for a solution to VDJ and headphones. (i have Virtual Dj version 6.0 Pro)
My problem is what do i need to have my headphones play separate tracks through the left and right ear phone.
Eg. when the cross fader is to the Left (Deck 1) i want that to be playing through the main speakers and the left heaphone piece only and Deck 2 to be playing through the right headphone piece only.
Ive heard i need some sort of sound card, if so what type and can i get one off of ebay or somewhere? can you please post a link of the type i nedd thanks.
Hope this makes sence.

Can I ask why you want to split the HF output to L and R?

Yoi could split the headphones to hear the master on one side and the selected deck on the other using the Advanced Sound Config and Mono Channels, but it will be permannt during mixing, you will not have the option to switch back to pure headphones monitoring.
I havent tried it so i dont know if there are some sound distrotions issues there. But try it.
Another option i am thinking is to set the left chanel as headphones and the right chanel as booth. Assign a rotary as booth volume and then you could mute the output on your headphones using that rotary.

Hi thanks for your help.
i wanted to be able to hear both decks through the headphones but it would be a bit pointless if the master is going through the speakers and one of the headphone pieces.
i was also thinking of another way that would probably be easier. How can i have the master coming out the speakers and the preview in the headphones? Ive heard you need some sort of a splitter or a external sound card for this to work?
thanks.

Try this for splitting headphones

Connect your master to output 1&2 (front speakers) and the headphones to output 3&4 (rear speakers).
Which soundcard are you curently using? To be able to prelisten you will need a 2 stereo output chanel sound card. So any 5.1 with front and rear outputs will do the job.

i havent got any sound card at the moment. The laptop i am using is a HP DV6 (Windows 7) and has 2 headphone jacks in the front if this helps.
so should i look for a 5.1 front and rear output sound card should work? one that just pluggs into the USB?

Ollie, if you are looking at external soundcards (such as Numark DJIO, Native Intruments Audio 4, Hercules Trim 4 6, etc), then they operate via a USB port on the your laptop.
A simple setup would be your laptop connected via USB to a Numark DJIO with your sound setup (in VDJ) sending the master output to channel 1 of the DJIO and your headphone (cue) output to channel 2 of the DJIO. This would allow you to preview (cue) in your headphones whilst your audience hears only the master output.
In one of my setups I have a DJIO connected via USB to my laptop which sends deck A to channel 1 and deck B to channel 2, the DJIO then feeds into my Behringer DDM4000 mixer, which has PFL (cue) selection, so I use my mixer for cueing (headphones).
One advantage of using a mixer is that most clubs (and a surprising amount of party venues) use XLR cables to connect to the amps. Unfortunatly there are very few (if any) USB sound cards that have XLR outputs - I built a 4 channel ground loop isolator that accepts RCA input from the DJIO and has RCA and XLR outputs.
