Topic: Question about Anti Virus Programs.

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Ok, so I have been using AVG free on my DJ computer for sometime now with not a single problem. Since it upgraded itself to AVG free 2011 I have had nothing but problems. It was messing up the audio in my Compuhost program and making the music sound like it was skipping while playing in Virtual DJ. I unistalled it and everything works fine. My question is, what programs do you guys use? I know that AVG did not have the ability to disable it only for 15 min. Thanks guys.

I dont use any, I ripped the internet connection on my laptop and do not connect it to anything, all the music that I use is on a portable drive. I download, edit, mix, priduce on another computer. I recommend to install VDJ or whatever dj solution you want on a computer that is completely isolated from any and all networks, also you should disable all services that you do not use since that gives more cpu cycles to VDJ. That gives me peace of mind.

Well, unfortunately it is the fastest, most storage computer that I have built and there are a few other things I use it for here and there so I want to make sure I have an Anti virus program on it.

I use Zone Alarm, and it even scans while I am playing at a gig. I don't do this on purpose, I just forget to turn it off. Then again, I don't have a little girlie machine.

i use Alwil and it scans at gigs also and no problem

my manly machine runs great , and buys it's own lapdances ........

i use the internet constantly on my gig machine , it's how i netsearch and musicgroup

no internet and no bluetooth is old fashioned xp stuff

learn how to tweak your machines so that they are manly and vigorous and up to date

especially if you wanna do new stuff like FireText or the iphone app......

Chuck, you are too pucking punny.

Thats what I am talking about. I built my computer so that I can still do all that stuff, but AVG was messing everything up. I just downloaded Avast I heard alot of good things about it, trying it out on my laptop now.

I dont use virus programs, they steal all the resources. Just dont download any porn b4 you dj and you should be alright with out them.

IMO, you only need Anti V if you are doing weird and wonderful stuff. I doubt at a gig you'll be checking e-mail for your info on your latest Viagra order, search dodgy "adult" web sites or downloading music via Limewire ;-)

The built in firewall will stop nasties getting on to your computer, for most viruses to be installed the user has to do something "inside" the protected area (ie your PC) to allow the offending app to be downlaoded/run.

If all you are doing is working with VDJ, Netsearch and Grooveshark then you should be fine. Heck even checking facebook and twitter will not cause you any grief.

My lappy is dual boot. 1st partition is Win 7 Ultimate, VDJ and a few other apps I use for broadcasting/recording. That's it. I connect to the net and have no problems, no incidents of viruses etc.

The 2nd partition (same Windows 7 Ultimate) is for my day-to-day use and I have AVG 2011 installed. Now both partitions share a 3rd data partition, which is where all my VDJ files sit so I can run VDJ on both with the same plug=ins etc., but it has the added security of being protected by AVG when I'm not in DJ mode.

Simples ;-)

Jim set your Alwil to update manually and it won't update during the gig

after the gig set it to auto

if you exercise a little common sense like Roy said, you can use the internet even without an anti virus

beware of borrowed cd's and thumb drives and even phones could have viruses

i have always used Alwil or Trend Micro

hey Rick check yer PM's .....i sent you a "how to" so you can control 4 decks with the RMX .....

Thanks for the info, I am one of those "better safe than sorry" people and I only use my everyday desktop to watch my internet porn.

I use Kaspersky. It is light weight, uses very little resources, and is easy to turn off. I have been using it for years without any issues. I just turn it off when I am doing a gig, since I am not connected to the internet. If someone gives me a thumbdrive, then I use a different computer to scan it first.

norton for me baby, no problems
