Ok So just purchased a brand new laptop (spec below)

HP Pavilion dv7-4040sa Core i5
Screen size - 17.3 in - 1600 x 900
Processor - Intel Core i5 - 2.26 GHz
RAM - 4 GB
Hard Drive - 500 GB
Operating System - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
Optical Drive - DVD Rewriter
Graphics - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
Webcam - Integrated
M Audio Fast track pro soundcard
numark dmc 2
virtual dj 5.0
Grand hand view iii video convertor

Took my laptop to my gig last night and about two hours into gig videos started to freeze on loading.

I also noticed that the mouse pointer kept jamming intermittently when scrolling through folders.

As I loaded the last video I played last night I got an error message telling me

"virtual dj had stopped responding and to click on the smiley face and everthing should return to normal"

Unfortunatly it didnt.

Virtual dj closed itself and I had to restart and play the final two hours of my gig with audio.

As Im djing with videos I always use the full video screen so I can keep my eye on cpu usage. In this respect everything looked fine. I also clicked on enable hardware acceleration

I also understand that it is a good idea to run the software in compatibility mode with service pack 2 for windows. Is this true ? as this was passed on info from another virtual dj user.

Could it be corrupt videos or a general error/something vdj doesnt like? Video card ?

Id really really appreciate any help with this issue as Ive just got this laptop and I wanna continue using this software but its a bit embarrassing when these things happen.

64 bit rules. Install the registry tool and set the usemaxmem value to half the card's capacity. Try to rid your machine of any unnecessary features, sofware, functions - you can google "black viper" tweeks for win 7. Run VDJ as an administrator and don't try to use too many plugins at once. I stick to two maybe three and I have a very powerful machine but better safe than sorry. I have not had a crash since version 7 has been released. Oh and I almost forgot...don't forget to adjust the scheme in your power management, very important.

I do not recommend using the compatibility for xp. It does not work for me, only causes problems.

where will i get the registry tool from

In the downloads/plugins/tools. Theres a wiki on it also, I highly recommend reading through it before you change too much in the registry.

Exactly that.
Other than the maxmemuse and other check boxes in that section I have not messed with the registry. I think I have speed load, Nvidia freeze bug and one or two more checked. It depends on what card you are running but in general the reg tool should be the first or one of the first things you install. Are you even using a registered copy of the program though?
