Topic: Upgrade from 6 to 7 controller problem

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello - i upgraded from version 6 to the current release of VDJ7 recently and now the Spin controller does not work.

While the spin controller is plugged in and i launch the VDJ7 software the controller freezes up with random lights on the controller on and not responsive. Only way to clear the controller is to shut down VDJ7 and reinsert the usb connection for the spin.

It was working in VDJ6.

This is the Mac version. The Mac OS is current.

The controller works fine with it's native software.

Any ideas?

Updated:

I removed VDJ7 and reinstalled it. The spin controller hangs up still with fresh install.
I removed VDJ7 again and reinstalled VDJ6 latest version and the spin controller works fine.

Vestax issue? or VDJ7 mapping conflict?

Any Ideas?

The Spin mappings have been updated in VirtualDJ v7 to support newer units with new firmware.

It may be that you had an old mapping for the Spin still in place.

Hmm, i'm not sure that would be the case as when i removed all references to v7 and reinstalled fresh it did the same thing.

One note: the spin i have i a year old so it would have an older firmware... Where would i get the updated version? i looked at the vestax site but had no luck finding an updated firmware?

Update: Spoke with Stan at Vestax support regarding this issue. We went through several trouble steps and it seems to be a VDJ7 and Mac issue.

VDJ6 works fine with the spin controller using a Mac Book Pro and the current Mac OS.

Stan also confirmed there is no firmware update for the spin and recommended not trying the Typhoon version as suggested in other threads.

So? VDJ Support, what can i do? The spin controller plugged into a Mac using VDJ7 does not work... Any ideas?

exe will only run on the pc side, is there a mac version?

edit: mis-read... i'll connect it to a pc and send..

Here are the results. I connected the spin to a Dell Precision M6400 running windows 7 current updates.

Update: I installed VDJ7 on the PC and it does work as intended with no error/hangup so the issue seems to be a Mac only problem.

Any news on the data posted?

Your Spin is returning a different SysEx ID to that used in the present definition in VirtualDJ v7, which is:

F0 7E ?? 06 02 00 40 02 20 01 00 00 00 26 00 ?? F7

(Where ?? can be any number.)

The Spin that I have returns the ID as above.

On a PC, your Spin is working because a different method of identification is used (USB VID/VIP), which is a new feature in VirtualDJ v7 and is only supported on a PC (Windows Vista and Windows 7.)

On a Mac, it will not work because VID/PID is not supported and the SysEx ID of your Spin does not match.

The definition will need updating to recognise the SysEx ID of your Spin.

Thanks for the update, i appreciate efforts and glad we found the issue.

Is this something that can be resolved easily with a build update or maybe a Mac Patch for the 7.0 version?

Any thoughts on a resolution?

Good day jpboggis - I just wanted to be clear, was this something i was supposed to remap or edit or is it a build update needed?

It will need to be changed in the next version of update of VirtualDJ.

Until then you can either use it on a PC, or if you contact me in support ( http://www.virtualdj.com/contact/index.html ), I will send you the updated definition.

Awesome, thank you. I think i did that right, i created a ticket in the mac tech support section.

All, everything is working so i thought i'd post the ticket info for others that might run into this until the next revision.

Thanks again to jpboggis at VDJ and Stan over at Vestax support. Both went above and beyond.

Message: Hi jpboggis - if you have the definition file for the spin / mac issue until the new release that would be great.

Copy it into the folder /users/YOURNAME/Documents/VirtualDJ/Devices on your Mac.

Please let me know whether it works or not.

Message: OK, I think the controller is working.. it did not fault or hang. All functions seem to work except one.

The spin controller is a soundcard as well and has a headphone jack. No matter how i configure the advanced settings i'm not able to get the pre-queue to work through the headphone jack. Ive tried all settings to try to get sound from the spin port but no luck.

Message: The mapper/definition has no effect on the internal audio card - It is totally separate.

On PC, you will need to use ASIO4ALL: http://www.virtualdj.com/homepage/cioce/blogs/3832/_ENG__Vestax_VCI-300_Typhoon_Spin_audio_setup_on_Virtual_DJ_6.html

On Mac, you may need to configure it for 4 channel audio:

* Open the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder. Double-click on Audio MIDI Setup.

* In the Properties for: drop-down, choose the Spin.

* In the Audio Output section, choose 4ch-16 bit.

* Now go into VirtualDJ, and set the following in the sound options:

Inputs: None
Outputs: Headphones
Sound card(s): 4 out card.
Sound card: Spin
