try a ground loop isolator

I had the same problem, I went back to the 2 platter skin.

gentlemen?? it's not the skin

try in config performances tab increase the latency

do you even need the gigaport ??

control the decks with the mixdeck....?

download asio4all, just google search it.

It seems to have that problem using 4 decks. Now as far as control it yes I know the mixdeck can & is controlling all 4 deck but need to add a second sound card to get the audio outs cause mixdeck onle has 4 outs. I also did a test where the gigaport was deck 1 & 2 & the mixdeck was 3 & 4 & the same problem the cracking sound only happens to deck 3 & 4. But again when I take it out of asio wheather it's the mixdeck or the gigaport the sound is good. So I can not use 4 decks went back to 2 decks till someone figures it out..........

2decks or 4decks its still VDJ, Bro just like Chuck said turn your settings down...............The "crackle" is your soundcard or laptop not being able to keep up. So just keep turning down your settings and it should go away.

on your performance tab set latency to auto and then check safe mode.

Also download Asio4all and set your buffer at 1024

vito you can route decks 1 & 3 to channels 1 & 2 in advanced config

decks 2 & 4 to channels 3 & 4 ........

advanced config is one of the best things since fishnet stockings .......

I recently bought the mixdeck and have noticed that the sound quality in my headphones is horrible! I've read this forum and have done everything according to what was recommended, to no avail. My system is HP Pavilion cv4-2167sb with Core M330@ 2.13 HGz, 4 GB RAM, 64 Bit Windows 7. The sound is very distorted, as if the sound levels are too high in the headphones. I have turned down all gain levels on the mixdeck but it hasn't helped much. Is there anything you guys can suggest to help? Thanks in advance!

Same problem here !!! I tried all the latency settings. The "Auto" selection is best for low latency between main out and headphone. But after a while of loading tunes the crackling starts and progressively gets worse.

I can change to another latency setting like 1024 or 2048 and the crackling disappears for a while, but will start again.

Of course I would hope a new release would fix this, but I am going to buy a nice USB sound card to eliminate confusion between my motherborad based sound card and the bus slot cound card.

Question:

Is it worth buying a 192khz 24 bit unit or would 96khz 24 bit be ok? I record and use 44.1khz to match CDs. Does it really sound better above 44.1khz?

Question:

If I buy a 4x4 M-Audio unit do I just assign 2 channels for main out left-right stereo, and the other 2 channels for the headphone?

How does it work with the headphone plugged into the unit? Do I need a sound card that allows you to switch the headphone to A channels or B channels? I'm a little confused.

Looks like the new interface will make assignments easy.

Thanks in advance !

I actually had this problem myself... no matter how I put down the latency I had a SERIOUS cracking when I used 4 decks.. and I'm pretty sure my laptop can fit the standards.

Sony Vaio - i5 processor, 4GB ram, Windows 7 & Windows XP Partitions (to test which VDJ worked better on), 1GB dedicated Video Memory, you name it!

It only happened when VDJ uses 4 decks.. 2 decks is fine.

i had the same problem on my vci 300 the problem in my case was the headphone gain knob on the front side of the vci 300 next to the phone jack that knob controls the gain i just had to adjust it to a good hearing quality because if it was set too high the sound would be distorted and it wouldnt matter if i controlled the headphone volume knob on top of the vci to low the sound would still be distorted.....now for those with sound dropouts and crackling sounds....check your asio driver settings i was having the same problem even with the performance setting to the lowest possible.....check that asio doest have both audio cards on in my case when i connected my vci 300 the asio setting would have my realtek audio card on as well as my vci 300...i had to go into the settings and manually turn the realtek off in asio setting that fixed the crackling sound now the dropouts came from having the vci 300's audio in on in the asio settings so practically all i needed to have on is the vci 300 out on and the "in" off now it works like a charm!

I am having the same problem but my skin has both a four deck setting and and a two deck setting and if I change it to a 2 deck setting it doesn't do much it still crackles like crazy. Yesterday I had a gig and the music started to crackle a lot but no one really noticed so its not urgent but I notice it and I like to hear quality music. So if someone can help that would be awesome.

Also I have the ASIO driver 1.07 that came with my virtual DJ program and I wanted advice if I should use that one or the ASIO4ALL driver instead. Which one works better?
