USB 3 on USB 2 Computer, Any Point?

Funny as its something I am looking into for my Macbook pro.
USB 3 will run on a usb port but at usb 2 speed.
If your lucky enough to have a pcmia or express card slot then you can use a usb adaptor and run at esb 3 speed from the expansion slot which is what I will be doing.

just bought a Seagate 500G external hard drive with usb 3. still compatible with usb 2. thought id have it when im able to get usb 3 speed.
