Topic: Looking for soundcard suggestions

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Now that VDJ7 is out. I would love to add another couple players. they would just make a few mixes and activities we do much easier.

Currently our system includes:

Denon X-500
Den HC-4500
HP DV5 laptop.

Everything has been working great!! but the HC4500 only has 2 outputs. do I use the built in soundcard?? or should I add another card through USB? or is there a decent Expresscard/54 solution?

currently we use 2 external drives. 1 USB and 1 eSATA there is 1 more USB port on the laptop.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you could put up with running in mono then you could do four channels without any extra kit since the HC4500 has 4 rca sockets on it. Not sure what people think about that anyway.

The NI audio 2 DJ is the smallest and best value way to add 2 extra outputs to your setup in my opinion. No idea how well two different sound cards would play together in the new vdj, you'd have to ask someone who's tried I guess.

i have the same set up denon x5800 and the denon hc4500. The hc 4500 is only a 2 channel sound card. So i have a Gigaport HD 8 channel external sound card. I went into the config of vdj and clicked on the advanced sound to setup the 4 decks to be played through the 8 channels on the Gigaport HD. I had to config the Gigaport HD to use 8 channels first. The only problem i have so far is it is only using 6 channels
which only allows me to use 3 decks on seperate channels of the x500. The 4th deck plays but it is coming out of my channel one on the Gigaport HD. I look at the Gigaport and the 7 and 8 channels are not even blinking which means they are not getting the signal. So i have to find out if its my setting in VDJ or if the config on the Gigaport is set to 6 instead of 8, will post back when i figure it out.

My solution was to use the Denon HC 4500 on Deck 1 & Deck 2, and use the Gigaport HD on Deck 3 & Deck 4, which allows me to use the 4 decks on 4 channels on the X500 Denon mixer. I still have to figure out why the Gigaport will not play all 8 channels, it may have something to do with the drivers, each time i run the driver setup the software cannot locate the device connected to the laptop, so i think my problem may be there, but i will figure it out and post back. At least i have 4 individual decks going out the mixer, which is what i wanted.

Figured it out. I have more than one gigaport sound card. The one i was trying to configure was not the HD but the AG. So i downloaded the drivers for it. Well one laptop is windows 7 and the drivers for windows seven would not work so i used the drivers for vista and Bingo! i downloaded the drivers for the Gigaport AG, and i have all eight channels running which enable me to run 4 independent decks. Its awesome. I can still control my decks one and two with the hc45oo controller because i plugged the usb in to a usb on the laptop. So although i am not using the Denon asio sound card plugging it in still gives me the ability to use the hc4500 controls if i choose. I will use my Gigaport HD with one of the other systems we have, but at least i know it will work. The reason the HD would not work is because i was plugging in the AG and thats why the download manager would not recognize the device, DUH.

hey guys...i'm a little bit rookey and i would like your help..i just had a format in my laptop,i installed the 5.2 vdj version and the asio4all soundcard, but i can't hear from my headphones..i managed to do something about the ''not enough channels'' that popped out when i was choosing the ''headphones mode'' by clicking some things in the config. menu of asio, but i still can't hear from my headphones...any ideas???

Thank you for the suggestions! I was actually looking at the NI soundcard. still doing some research etc but will try to remember to come back and put what I chose when I make the decision and why
