I am currently looking to get a new controller. Im looking at both the American DJ VMS4 and the Numark Mixdeck.
I did a bit of research, but cant find much info based on the fact that (to my knowedge) both are pretty new. So anybody with any experiance with one or the other that has a review or anything to sharewould be great. Thanks

the obvious is that VMS4 is a 4 DECK controller, and is also a REAL hardware mixer, that can mix analogue sources as well as being used without a laptop connected.
While MixTrack PRO (you need the PRO as it has soundcard inside) is just a midi controller, but has really really nice jogwheels
(edit : i see you said MixDeck and not MixTrack .. so see my post below)
So it depends a bit on your needs ;)
I've only tested both briefly, and both felt nice.. but i bet others can post up more extensive feedbacks here ..

The mixdeck would be the best choice for me cuz it can be used without software, i mean with cds. The wsm4 is nice but I prefer the mixdeck.
So thats my opinion. I would buy the numark with my eyes closed :P
Now you decide which one is better for you.

ah .. sorry, I see he said MixDeck and not MixTrack (both from numark)
The MixDeck is a full blood setup, with cd players, mixer, etc etc etc.. all you need :)
So if you need that, its the choice.

I can only comment on the VMS4 so I will. It is a nice piece of hardware and works great as a midi controler and analog mixer. However American Audio does have some issues with the VMS4 that they are well aware of and are trying as fast as they can to get them sorted out.
1: Distorted Mic output
2: Low headphone gain
3: Low XLR main and RCA output db
other than that it was a soild controler and worked great. I am a long time Numark customer and have a ton of their gear, but the VMS4 was just the right fit for my style.
Good luck to you.

I used the Mixdeck for about a month or so at a club I work with Version 6 and I loved it. I have been DJing now for 17 years and I do privates and club mixing. I am looking to get one as a second system when the finances allow it.

i do strip clubs and mobil , and i will get a VMS4 soon because of the mixer and balanced outs
i didn't know until i was talking about it with Cyder @ the AC DJXPO that it is one of very few units
with balanced outs , although that will probably become common fairly soon
it is a cool hybrid kinda thing .....

I have been DJing for 7 years doing weddings, anniveraries, and restaurant dining and private parties.
I had the Total Control with a Behringer mixer and laptop and all worked well.Looking to upgrade..I bought the VMS4 and had a weekend
playing with it before returning it.Well built unit but had some issues as mentioned in an earlier post.
I then saw the Mixdeck and took that home.So far it works great.Does what it says and has extra options for being universal for input devices.
I had the same options with my mixer before also but required extra cable to have on hand and I didnt have the cd units except my laptop
and that I just replaced because it failed after 4 yrs.
The only issue the mixdeck has that I can see and hear is the crossfader but Numark is replacing this for me.I hope that solves my problem.
The mixer is not a MIDI controller however..but the left/right decks are.All is good with it.
Now if I could only get the hang of learning to scratch...

Really depends on what features you need if you want to be able to play from iPods, USB KEYS and CD as well as software the mixdeck is a nice option.

To be honest I've never been a fan of Numark (sorry Simon) but Numarks recent products are far better than ones from a few years ago. I had the VMS4 for a week and it was basically rubbish. Poor build, components and not tested in my opinion. My 7 year old is after his first controller for his birthday and the mixdeck ticks all the boxes. Until ADJ redesign and test the VMS4 I would personally avoid it.

I know the question was vms4 or mixdeck, but how about the new denon?
http://www.denondj.com/DN-MC6000-P125.aspx
it's got the features of the vms4, the price of the mixdeck and the quality of denon!

I have preordered the MC-6000, I think it was £679.00
