Wow! I finally got to test 7 on my gig laptop.....I'm ecstatic right now! First off let me say that the sound engine sounds amazing. Scratching with my time codes has never sounded better, pure scratch mode is awesome! What is even more impressive though is the advanced stretching feature. Unbelievable!!!! With my timecodes activated I'm able to fully scale +100 -100 pitch with minimal distortion (when I say minimal I mean virtually non existent with Keylock on!).Effects on and and everything. Whithout timecode on my RMX there is ZERO distortion! Que points bouncing around effects filtering and loops looping. All sounding so fresh and so clean clean!!! I'm gonna make a video showcasing all my new favorite features as soon as this hellacious school week is over. Lets just say I have a 80 bpm hip hop beat looped and sounding like a straight ibizza drum and bass solo right now running through my turn tables and I'm loving it!! Cant wait to rewire it through reason 5 and really get crazy with it! Thank you Atomix!!!!!!!

glad you liked it ;) and get creative on 4 decks ;) hehe

Question:

In order to use 4 decks, do you HAVE to have external audio products?

also, can i mix and match? Like can I use two timecode turntables, and the laptop for the other two?

Two and two seem to be ideal for me....

no you dont need external sound devices ;)

And for 2nd question, what ever you prefer ..

You can have a traditional 2 deck setup (timecode or midi controller) and control ALL 4 decks with a 2 deck controller/timecode, simply by choosing what deck in virtualdj is LEFT and RIGHT ... (left side on controller controls LEFT deck in vdj, and you can choose what deck is left in virtualdj)

And yes, you can easily have timecode setup for two decks, then a midi controller for next 2 decks :)

Let me explain:

right now, I bought VDJ at version 6, with no external devices. So I've been using it from my comp, with just a mouse and Keyboard. I've become quite adept with the functions and my mix CD's come out quite nice, to some acclaim of house music afficionados.

But I have the ability to hook up with some external devices, and in case I want to DJ with my brother, who uses serato with two timecoded turntables, which I haven't practiced with.

Would I be able to hook the two turntables up to VDJ, and allow him to maintain usage of the turntables, while using JUST the laptop functions when it is my turn to mix?

*offers Atomix another massive slap on the back for v7, particularly the improvements to the sound engine*

(I really must stop messing about slowing down vocals with keylock, and making them sound like the breakdown on that Tamperer record... "what's she gonnna look like with a chiiiiiiiimmmmnnnneeeyyyy onnnnnnn herrrrrrrrrrr"...etc.)

In the first four minutes of playing around, I have a "broner" for VD7!

yes, serato vinyls and soundcard works with VDJ ;) so he can hook up and play with VDJ, and you take over after using laptop functions

Let me make sure I got this right....I can control all 4 decks with 2 timecodes. If I select deck 3 as leftdeck, then when I manipulate my left CDJ, only deck 3 will be affected in my software, and deck 1 will not react? If I understand this correctly, that is the SHIZNIT!!!! It renders my earlier questions about multiple cards pointless.

exactly ;)

you can control ALL 4 DECKS with a 2 deck controller setup ;) (timecode or midi)

Simply by choosing what deck of the 4 decks are LEFT and RIGHT, and your controller at LEFT will control leftdeck, and same for rightdeck

Great...Just to make sure I got it all right, consider this setup...

2 Timecoded CD decks connected to Audio4DJ with external mixer...

VDJ Decks 1&3 routed to output 1&2
VDJ Decks 2&4 routed to output 3&4

Deck 1 set to leftdeck
Deck 4 set to rightdeck

I can scratch on deck 4, while I have an instrumental playing on deck 2....Deck 4 will recognize and react to the timecode movement while deck 2 plays straight through without recognizing the movement, and both sounds will come out of output 3&4...

Is this correct? If it is, I could just fly out and kiss you guys....(but not really...lmao)

Yes, that's exactly how it works!

Ok...I mapped this all out, and it looks as if it should work, but it doesn't. I have decks 1 and 3 mapped for the left deck. When I switch to deck 3 as the left deck, my timecode still controls deck 1...What have I done wrong? Or shall I submit a ticket?

UPDATE: Still didn't get it working, but I submitted a ticket for the issue. Thanks a bunch guys...Overall, 7 is kickin ARSE!!!

Okay, it's time for me to Hijack my brother's Serato setup.....

@ sphis I am currently trying to setup the same thing. I read the manual the other night but I was really tired. I thought it said something about having to write a code and map it to a key to get your inputs to switch channels. In there example they mapped it to ctrl+V or something like that. As soon as this hangover from last night goes away I will read through it again and see if I can find it.
- On a side note My rmx is successfully controlling 4 decks with left & Right option selected. Now I just need to figure out how to make a button to make it toggle between 1,2 &3,4. My Dennon DN X-1600 Just shipped today, so I wont need to worry about it for long! =D

@ lcmxr6...Thanks for the response. I am eagerly awaiting any solution for this. That would be the final piece to my setup problem. I read several similar threads and tried a few things, none of which worked. I also read, well...skimmed, through the manual and didn't come up with anything there either. I submitted a ticket last night, so I am patiently waiting for a teamer to respond. In the meantime, I will keep trying to figure it out myself. If you come up with an answer, let me know.

Thanks again!!!
