Topic: Cue points moving to random spots

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

The short story:

I have multiple cue points set on most of the songs I play. Cue point 1 is always the start of the track, Cue 2 might be where the vocals or chorus kick in.

At times, I'll load a track and Cue 2 will show up at a totally random spot - sometimes towards the end of a song, sometimes at 0:00:00, before Cue 1. I can't find any reason for this - sometimes it'll happen on a song that I played the night before with no problems. I've been using Virtual DJ since version 3, and it's been great up until around 4 months ago. I'm currently using the latest version.

My PC is a Dell Studio XPS 16. If anyone's got some suggestions about what's causing the random cuepoint movement, please chime in. Thanks!

It sounds like a corrupted database... Perhaps a "Check/Clean/Fix" will cure it?

Tried that, to no avail.

try switching it up, like put cue 2 on the first of ur song and cue 1 wherever u would have cue 2 and then see what happens

Ok, I assume I can't help you, but I will tell a few things to "check"

When VDJ is in stopped mode (music is not playing) and it's not on a cue-point pressing the CUE button will set a cue-point. I know that this is not something new to you.
However:
I use VDJ for a couple of years now but I still can't get used on this behavior. I am one of the guys that's very used in the "Pioneer-like" behavior where pressing the CUE button will result the song to jump back on the cue-point and stay cued (unless it's in stutter mode). So, several times after hitting "Brake" or "Loop-Out" effect I end up scr...ing my cue-points because as soon as the player stops I hit the CUE button to jump back on my cue-point. Also, for exact the same reason when a track reaches it's end sometimes I mess my cue-points again because VDJ goes back to the start of the song and then stops.

I'm sure that since you are a very long time VDJ user you are aware of this behavior, but is there any chance that someone else used your PC and messed things up???

Not a chance on someone else using my PC - I'm the only one who uses my stuff.

To investigate further, I took a look at the XML database file and sure enough, Virtual DJ is somehow writing incorrect values for some cuepoints, which is why they're showing up in random places the next time I play the same song. I haven't figured out what's causing the values to get thrown off before their written to the database; I'm not sure if the XML file is saved in realtime or at the end of the VDJ session (I used to get a "saving database" message on earlier versions of VDJ when closing the program, but now I don't see that).

It's worth noting that in addition to the VDJ6 database, I still had a VDJ5 database file in the same folder. I deleted that older database file yesterday just to see if affects the problem.

I just started having the same problem Tuesday night. Never had the problem before, then an hour or so into the night I would cue up a song and when I pushed play it would jump some where else in the song. I also am running the latest version. The only thing that I had changed from the time before was changing my maxmem in the setting to 512 to fix the video freeze issue. I only used video, didn't try it with audio tracks, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

My cue points are just completely disappearing and I think I've read about similar occurrences of what's described above in another thread. I could be wrong so don't quote me there.

I use cdj1000 with Maya 44 soundcard. Also use timecoded CDs. Whenever I cue a song using cdj1000, the beat keeps jumping out of the cue point. Any solution?

Mine aren't disappearing; it seems that some of them are getting written as negative values after they've been set, which causes them to default to 0:00 the next time a song is loaded. I can't figure out what's causing that behavior, but it's not cool - I do a lot of jumping around a track when I mix, so I need to be able to rely on the cue points I've previously set.

Just wanted to follow up and see if people are still having this problem. I've yet to find a solution to it, or a reason for it. The problem is a big one for me, as I've also had the program crash when trying to delete and fix some of the stray cuepoints.
