I use Reason5, but there are many out there. Just really depends on how deep your pockets go. I made a few just using VDJ. Well not a full on beat but I've sampled a bunch of things then loaded it all up in the sampler then start bringin up the volume of bits here and there while recording it. Hopefully you get what I'm sayin, lol!! Or just google "How to make beats"

ok thnx

You can try FL Studio

well which one do you guys think is easier to use?

Google 'drum machine software'...

Or you could buy a hardware sampler like one of the Akai MPC range, or Roland SP404.

Well Fruity Loops will be easier to learn but Reason is pro grade. FL just dosent have things or can do everything Reason can do.

The choice is yours

Fruity Loops and Reason are complete overkill for just making beats though...

You could buy a real drum machine for a third of what Reason costs!

DesertPunk - if you have an iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad, there are apps that will let you bash out
a beat on your touch screen.

I would say fruity loops isn't overkill, Its perfect for learning to make beats and not too pricey. But the samples are crap, you should definitely spend some money or at least time sourcing good sample packs as the standard samples in any DAW software will be poor quality and cheap sounding at best... Lesson 1 - your tracks are only going to be as good as the sounds in them, it doesn't matter what software you use as long as you have a sequencer, basic effects, filters and equalizers and the ability to host plugin VST Software for better effects and synthesizers. If your just making simple beats you could probably even use Audacity which is a knock off freeware version of Adobe Audition (although this doesn't have a sequencer, so you had better be good at maths to get everything on time).

Synthet1c is spot on. Sure their over kill if all you wanna make is drum beats but for I make Dubstep tracks and with Fruity loops well the sound just isn't there and its a ton more work to get the automation down. So I stand by what I said sure you can take the cheap route or spend a little more and start putting out beats that you never thought you could make!

Im a firm believer in "What you pay for is what you get"
