Topic: VDJ Stops Working

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Ok im getting a little frustrated with this a few weeks ago i put up a thread about my vdj sounds just stops it doesa not freeze the sound just goes out, i have to restart vdj and it works again for the rest of the night. let me give you my specs before i continue

Dell xps studio 1645 i7
4gb of ram
500 gb hd 7200rpm
hercules rmx
2-denon s3700
i have 3 usb ports i have the 3700's pluged into 2 of the ports
have my rmx my external hdd pluged in a powered hub into my other usb
Also i am using the rmx as my sound card

Now i was told that my sound card was disconnecting, it could be a wire or a faulty usb port, so i go out and buy a wire that dint work tried swithching to all different usb ports but it still happens. It seems that it only happens 1 time a night then it works fine for the rest of the night.
I just want to say i love vdj with all its features but im ready to give up on it. I have hesitated on buying serato but i recently purchased an sl3 box and must say its a plug and play software no tweaking no turning almost everything off so it works, it just works.... Denon just made an announcemet that they will have an hybrid feature this month where i can midi map my s3700 with serato. I hate to say it but i think i will going to go the serato way the stable way. I cant be doing my gigs and worrying about my sound going off with a full dance floor. Maybe i will give vdj 7 a shot but im sure there will be another set of problems that come with that version 2. I know i sound like a pessimist but you have let me down to many times shame on me.....

The problem is that you are running your RMX through a HUB that is also having bandwidth taken up by data being accessed from your hard drive connected.

If you run the RMX directly connected to it's own on-board USB port does it disconnect?

Hey there cstoll thanks for the reply but im pretty sure it has happened when i had the rmx plugged directly and if that was the case why would it just happen just once a night? The problem i have is that i only have 3usb ports and i read somwhere that the 3700's should have there own usb ports.
Could i connect the 3700's to the hub since im not using there sound cards?

I suspect I have the same issue? Does the whole of VDJ freeze, or does the music just stop (interface still works), so you can go config, sound setup, click apply and continue on your merry way?

You didn't mention what operating system your using (or i missed it).

I am bench testing a Win 7 system that seems to be doing the same thing (HP pavilion DV6). Last night it did it after 1 hour on a packed sat night (again... its been playing up since I brought it, and I have no other system). As a last ditch effort (as I noticed the interface still responding, I disabled all other sound devices, it played for another 2.5 hours with no issues. I'm now doing some proper bench testing, the results may help you too.

I have windows 7... I had a party last night and pluged both my s3700's into a hub and my soundcard(rmx) to its onw usb port and my external hard drive also to its external usb port and it worked perfect all night i guess when your not using the s3700's sound cards it is ok to hook them up to a hub. They dont take to much bandwith just using them as controllers, hope this helps......

Is it possible for the power supply to affect VDJ and RMX? I have used my set up in various locations with no problems but recently in two different venues I had a problem where one deck seems to get into an unrecoverable state. A restart of the laptop did not resolve the problem which is really worrying. The only thing I can think that is different is the power supply. I always use a ground loop isolator but I doubt this is anything to do with it. I hook my RMX in one USB port and my ext drive in another which works fine 99% of the time as I say. Can anyone tell me if I need another component in the mix? Thanks.
