Is this just for home use?
What's your budget?
If I were looking for speakers to monitor my mixing at home, I'd chose something
from the KRK Rokit range. Superb quality.

For DJing, surround sound is useless. The music is created in stereo and the software is designed for stereo music. I don't believe that there are any music videos either that use 5.1. So, eliminate those speakers from your choices unless you are planning to do something else too.
Check out the Behringer B1030A speakers (http://www.pssl.com/Behringer-B1030A-Active-Studio-Monitor-Each). They cost about $100 each but they sound great and they have decent volume. I got lucky and found a place that had them priced at $100 for the pair. They won't shatter windows but they will work great in for practice. I've actually used them on stands for monitors at large parties too.
