I Had the same problem. If you get the Registry_Tool in the download section it well sort it out for you.
In Controllers
Turn on MotorWheelInstantplay and set MIDI low to on.

Hope this helps..

Are you saying the denon 5500's are working perfectly for you?

Both of them working fine now. Took awhile to get them sorted.
But got there in the end. Even have them mapped to VDJ.

what are your specs on the controllers????

I'll get back to you on that.
The ol' head isn't what it used to be.
If you check the 5500 thread you'll get the
Settings for VDJ.

DN-HS5500 Settings that are working for me...... so far anyway.

Cue Mode = Denon
Auto Cue = -54db
Crossfade = -48db
Nextfile = 4 sec
Platter Sp = 45 rpm
3/4 effect = Off
Jump Time = 10 sec
Quick Jump = Time
Pitch = +- 10%
EOM = 10 sec
Fader Mode = 1L P/Pas
Pitch = On
Play Mode = Cont.
Time Mode = Remain
TT Tricks = On
Audio Curve = On
Search Step = 1 Step
Playback = File
File Search = Artist
BPM search Range = +-3
Folder Sort = On
Region = Other
MIDI CH Set = 1&2
Jog Trns = 3ms
Unit No. Set = All
Version = System 1400

VDJ Settings

I'm using the three ch mixer output with the denon asio
Jog Sensitivity (Scratch) = 139.2%
Jog Sensitivity (Cue) = 100.8%
Jog Sensitivity (Bend) = 100.8%

I uses the same specifications works fine wit out vinyl mode.
If I use the vinyl mode I have sound like an old record (wobbling)
I think for the denon hs5500 is virtual dj 6.05 the best.
But if you play with new controllers like pioneer is better you use the newest virtual dj.
If you play only with de denon hs5500 use 6.05.

for me I have no problem that de platter don't work (not good) in de latest virtual dj
