This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi All.

I have a Macbook Pro Unibody 2.8gz, and a Motu Ultralite. I use Pioneer CDJ 1000's for mixing. I have the demo version of VDJ to test the timecode operation with my Motu. I have it all hooked up right and i burned the correct Timecode CD's. However i am getting no signal into VDJ with all the input and output config setup correctly. My Motu is a Mk2. Does anyone know if this card maybe is not compatible? I would have thought a card of this pro end quality should work ok?

Can anyone help?

Many Thanks

Lee

No one have any experience using Motu with VDJ then?

I have used the MOTU Ultralight with VirtualDJ for output and for input from my mixer to stream it on the net. The issue I have had is that VirtualDJ doesn't have a method to directly choose the specific channels of audio in and out and are a static configuration. On the PC, I had the same issue and hacked the registry to get the mappings correct. On the Mac, I have used JackPilot to help map out the audio. It was very frustrating so I have ended up with a Hercules DeeJay Trim 4x6 to resolve this issue.

The MOTU is a higher-end system used mainly for studio or live sound and is very capable for many tasks. Other software (Cubase, Traktor, etc.) have direct mapping capabilities to each channel. The unit has several banks of channels and 1&2 are replicated several times. For inputs, the first and second channel are the mic inputs to the Ultralight, then 3-8 are the other inputs but you also have 1&2 on SPDIF and 1&2 on Mix. It looks like 1-2 MIC, 3-8 ANALOG, 9-10 SPDIF, 11-12 MIX.

For outputs, there are 1&2 for mains, then 1-8 for analog, then 1-2 for SPDIF, and 1-2 for PHONES. This looks like 1-2 MIANS, 3-10 ANALOG, 11-12 SPDIF, and 13-14 PHONES.

In Virtual DJ, it only shows the option to map 1-2/3-4 or 3-4/1-1 which maps starting from the beginning groups of 1-12 for in and 1-14 for out.

Before I switched to the DeeJay Trim, I used JackPilot to map the channels how I wanted them between different programs, including VirtualDJ.

I didn't use TimeCode or MIDI so I don't know if this is a similar issue, but this was the issue I had with using the unit. To me it is more of a programming issue on VirtualDJ and not on MOTU's part. Again, looking at other software, this is not an issue since you can specify exactly the unit you use and the ports you use and not assume that a user has a specific setup, as VirtualDJ does.
