Ok, first here is my setup.
Mackbook pro (leopard, late 2007)
Bootcamp with windows 7
Uac turned off, as well as USB power saving
The other day, I was djing audio and video. On a USB hub was a gigaport, VGA converter, and an ac powered 2 TB with 1.1 gigs of music and video.
At exactly 9:50, 10:50, and 11:50 gigaport just cut out. Waveforms were still spinning, video continued, and I had access to the external drive. All I had to do was unplug the gigaport, plug it back in and reassign it as the sound card of choice. Eventually I plugged the gigaport into the second USB drive on the Mac, and no probs after that.
Next: I'm djing another party with a 329 gb hardrive plugged into the USB that cut out every hour at :50, and a denon hc-4500 plugged into the macbookpro's other USB. Again, at :50 the harddrive disconnected itself and reloaded in about 10 seconds, yet the audio never stopped and I still had connectivity with the HC.
So it seems one USB port is on some type of cycle or is affected by another function or program cycling at :50, while the other USB remains unaffected.
Bear in mind this has never happened before these two circumstances! I have been nothing some lag on the Mac osx partition recently.
I'm not sure what is causing this, but it's a pain! Maybe a fresh install of leopard and windows 7?
Any advice or ideas?

What is UA off ? Also usb power savings (it should be at max) One thing i don't recomend is using a USB hub. I have a Mac myself and when i dj videos, I use 1 USB for the soundcard, The other usb for The Mixer to laptop (Midi) and i use a Firewire HD for the video. When using a External HD, Its always best format it. Dont run the software that came with the HD. I think your problem could be the power savings. your allowing the Computer to turn off the port when it wants too.

On the USB power savings, I have two options. Disable or enable. I have it set to disable. UAC is the function that always stops you an asks do you want to continue, etc. I have that off also.

The power saving is usaully not setup for a specific hour that it power cycles. Did you install the external harddrive program that came with your device like Caliente mentioned.

No I didn't. And remember, it happened with the gigaport too.
