Topic: Disk usage maxing out

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Ok so I've been having this problem where everytime I load a new song into either deck my screen freezes up for anywhere between .5 to 5 seconds. The music and my video output are unaffected, but it really bugs me because on my old pc it worked perfect. Now I've done all kinds of stuff trying to fix the problem thinking it was something codec or driver related but lo and behold, nothing worked.
Frustrated I decided to start back at square one, back to task manager. This time I went into the windows 7 resource manager and I noticed thatwhile the cpu and memory both operate at very low levels, evertime I load a song my disk usage completely spikes to max. This seems to be causing the lockup.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? I'm running a dual hardrive laptop, an HP DV7-3188cl. My main drive is a 640gb 5400rpm which has my os and all my music on it. The secondary is a 320gb 7200rpm drive which has karaoke on it and typically isn't accessed while I'm using vdj.
Anyone have any ideas as to why the system is choking up everytime?

windows 7 right?
32 bit or 64 bit?

Video card? size? model?

Sorry, yes its windows 7 64 bit.
Video card is a nvidia 105m 512mb on board.
I've tried just about everything regarding the video, all codecs are in place and I have the most up to date drivers installed. I also have used the tool that's suppose to help those with nvidia cards, but that didn't help.
