Topic: VDJ Screen kept freezing last night? - Page: 1

This part of topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information

this is a new one for me. first my specs:

Dell Precision Mobile Workstation
i5 520
4 gigs ram
Windows XP
mp4's on external WD 1TB
Dedicated gig machine, no internet and no extra programs running 15 processes at selective start up.

so last night everything was running smooth until about 2 hours into the night. i had a video playing and one cued up and as i was cutting the new video in i noticed on the screens at the club that it wasn't bringing the new video in. i then looked at the screen and the whole VDJ window was frozen. Video crossfader wasn't responding or anything for that matter. Even if i clicked on the window with the mouse nothing, cou metter wasn't moving etc. video and audio output wasn't affected other than not fading to the other video etc. after about 20-30 seconds it un froze and i continued. this happned again 4 or 5 times within 45 minutes. then it didn't happen the rest of the night? In my year and a half of using VDJ.CUE i never came across this one. has anyone else?

Yeah I get that occasionally and have been trying to figure it out. Seems to clear when I load a new track into the other window. After that it only loads the first bit of the next track and then loads bit by bit into the window as it plays - doesnt ever seem to run out or cause any playback probs. I am pretty sure it is started by playing a track with some corruption that the system doesnt like for some reason but havent been able to prove it yet.

Yes, i get a similar problem every so often, normally it happens if i play loads of songs that are not in my 'normal' playlists, all my files are scanned tho. But yea, it does seem to clear it if you drop another video onto the other player. Not just one of my systems it does it on, but all 3 with different specs. a couple of other guys i know also have the same problem.... But when you think about the amount of work the software does i think its only fair it has the occasional 'break' LOL

no its not fair for it to have a break of 30 seconds live at a gig with no response from the program. its a professional program and should perform as such all the time. if it was a split second or two fine but not responding to my fader, volume controls etc isn't good. at least i know i'm not the only one with the issue. like i said it won't respond so i can't load a new track to clear it up.

I had a weird one on the weekend... first time its happened but I think it may be related to my laptop over heating. I've just bought a new one and waiting for delivery now.

My cpu meter kept spiking every 3-4 seconds and my graph display was pausing during that time. Music was still playing but it felt real dodgy. This happened after 4 hours playing.

Its never happened before but still not the best feeling..

Have you guys checked the USB power. Sometimes the USB will go to sleep and External drive will stop spinning because it thinks it's not being used.

my system is tweaked and usb is set to NEVER power off etc. the whole program freezes on me for 20-30 seconds not just doggy or skipping totally freeze.

maybe not USB power setting, but if one of your harddrives spins down you will see this freeze until your drive spins back up.

Set your windows power profile to always on, and go from there..

Try a portable powered USB Hub it works wonders especially if you have hard drives all of mine are powered the only thing I have running on USB rig power is my Hercules MK2, thats it nothing else.

Joey...

ok maybe i wasn't clear. the machine is a GIG machine tweaked. it is NOT a usb problem its a self powered external and has NEVER given me problems before this one time. my machine is set to always on there are 15 processes running when startup with ONLY 4 programs i use during gigs loaded to it. the video card is a 1 GIG dedicated. its not from the hard drive spinning down. how could it be spinning down if im changing tracks and scratching, mixing etc the whole time. again this is not a usb issue. how can it be?

From my experience, it normally happens with some particular videos (especially those with large sizes) and if your performance settings are set to quality, other than closer to high performance. You can take notice of those videos and if possible, re-render those videos by changing their codecs. it's very common with those video with "dat". extensions.

that's the thing these are all videos i have used before and where scanned in vdj. all mp4's with the same "specs" etc not vob, avi etc all mp4's and all "normal" file size. thats why i figured it was a vdj issue of some sort.

are you saying you have had your VDJ program screen freeze for 20+ seconds from these files you talk of?

I have that problem every so often. What kind of sound card are you using? Mine does it when I use the SL1.

Korg Zero 4 Mixer.

i've had this issue

it's a well tweaked gig machine and 8 gigs of ram

i wonder if it isn't memory leaks

my solution has been to throw on an emergency cd for a song ,shut down

VDJ (NOT A REBOOT) and then re launch VDJ

with me it only happens after a very long time , like 7 hours or more .......

i encounter that when i do my 14 hour double shifts at the strip club (2 every week)

that's why i can't put my finger on it. i have been using vdj for well over a year 3 sometimes 5 nights a week 4 hours a night and this was the first time this ever happened to me. total freeze and loss of control until it un froze on its own.

sometimes you can get lucky and turn off fx and it unfreezes

as far as i can tell the titler plug in and the cube may be involved

i do not use the titler at all any more unfortunately

but that's the thing. when it happens i can't do ANYTHING in vdj. i can click on other program or windows and they respond. the ONLY this that freezes and doesn't respond is vdj. baffling.

talk to ACW or another dev person or try a ticket

Unplug the controller, and plug it back in.
