Topic: Two sound cards, different latency

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

At home I use my new Hercules DJ console MK4 connected to a Mac Mini.
I am currently using VDJ 6.07 that came in bundle, with the Pro features enabled in evaluation mode.
I would like to use the hercules headphone out for cueing and the mac out for main out. I tried two ways but I run into different issues.
1) Using the dual card setup I get horribly distorted sound in the headphone (cracking & popping, digital distortion)
2) If I create an aggregate Midi device in MAC OSX and I use the 4-out card option, it kind of works but there is a very noticeable delay on the mac out (might also by my digital home theater amplifier)
Is there a way to separately tweak latency on two different sound cards?
thanks for any suggestion!
PS I know I could use the audio out of the Hercules, but at home I dont need an extra cable...

I get the same problem....

The main reason the Mk4 and other DJ soundcards have all the necessary inputs and Outputs is because it will always be more efficient to use 1 soundcard that trying to have 2 different hardware devices working together. I would highly recommend selecting the Mk4 as the sole soundcard and connect speakers (even some inexpensive ones) to the back of it.

If you absolutely have to use the computer integrated speakers, try this:

- Configure VDJ withthe MK4 as the soundcard

- Connect a cable from Output 1/2 of the console to the LINE input of the computer

- Download LineIn from this page:

- Run LineIn, leaving everything as default, and click Pass thru

You should now get the main output mix from the MK4 in your speakers
