Hello Fellow DJ's

I have a single's party booked and they are requesting Salsa, Meringue, and Bachata, I have no idea what to buy,? are there popular songs I should be looking for ? Itune has some best of cd's

Help would be appreciated

I have "The Beginner's Guide to Salsa", which works well when this stylle of music is requested. I don't think I could do a whole night, but it's always gone down well when I've used it. The 3 CDs are arranged for beginners, intermediate, and advanced so it's fairly easy to find something to suit the ability level of your guests without having to know each track (I don't!)

In latin parties I also play top 40, disco, reggaee, rock and roll, Pop, etc.

A little explanation about the latin culture.
Althought people form almost every contry from Mexico to Argentina are consider latinos, the cultural diferences could be huge.
You could make many sub groups but in my experiece musically I normally divide them it in 2.
Regional Mexican and Mainstream latinos.
General for both groups: Music is super important, our parties are not coctails parties (In general), you won't get away with one or two songs, you are expected to keep the dance floor going with the right songs for hours.
Even if all the songs sound identical to you, there are many genres and in general you should not make mixes betwen one song from one genre to another from the other genre unless you really know what you are doing.
Not everyone likes all the genres, some groups will be completly turn off by the wrong kind of music.

Mainstream Latinos:(Normally up to 150 guest) 1 Sub and 2 tops will do it
All the south and central american countrys.
Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Reggaeton, Pop and the American Music. NO REGIONAL MEXICAN MUSIC

Regional Mexican: (Normall 200+ guest) Big espeakers a must, Cerwing Vega Subs and double 15 tops, Play loud and speak a lot.
Mexico is a huge country with a diverse, rich and complex musical culture and a lot of micro cultures.
For me as a latin (Colombian), has been a challenge, just to scracth the surface in the regional gigis, to the point that I hire a dj from the region that the client is and I play all the rest and even those DJs strugle in some parties.
Some groups will be VERY SPECIFIC, They will dance only to the specific musical groups of their town.
Another important difference is the amout of equiptment expected. Do not arrive to this gig with 2 speakers and a laptop.
The above is not to scare anyone but to warn you to be prepared. Buena suerte.

I agree with a lot of post from here. DJ Caliente- your list is awesome and it's perfect timing for a latin party that I have to do.

As a Colombian DJ- I was hired to DJ a party this weekend with request from top 40, merengue, salsa, bachata, to even cumbia and vallenatos. The family that I will be hosting the party for has requested no reggaeton.

If anyone knows vallenatos and has a good playlist- it would be great if you can share. I love vallenatos myself, but djaying isnt about what I love, its about what the crowd loves so I am open for more song ideas!

I am also looking for clean top 40 that doesn't talk about sex, drugs, or alcohol or violence. This is primarily since I DJ mostly private events and birthday parties, all music has to be clean.
