I downloaded the Virtual DJ free software (for Windows) but I have not purchased a mixer yet. I plan you purchase the VMS4. Now, here is my question, when I purchase the VMS4 will it come with the Virtual DJ software I need to use the VMS4 or will I still have to use the same 20 day free Virtual DJ software I already downloaded? When I purchase the VMS4 will there be a Virtual DJ software disk installation in the box? If there is an installation disk that comes with the purchase of the VMS4 will that allow me to install Virtual DJ software without worrying about a 20 day trial. How long will the Virtual DJ installation software last if I purchase the VSM4?

The VMS4 comes with a VDJLE instalation disc that allows you to use the VMS4 with the software as long as you wish and also give you the option of upgrading to VDJ Pro at a discount after you register the license number on the disc.
You just need to make sure tha the VMS4 you purchase comes with VDJ and not Traktor.

Sorry guys but one more question. I stated in an earlier post that I will be purchasing the VMS4. I read the system requirements and it states that Windows XP Sp3 or Windows Vista is needed. Well I have Windows 7. Does this mean that the VMS4 is not compatible with my Windows 7 laptop?

You need to be very careful what you say - I'll put this down to you being young and inexperienced. A fair few of the guys you will talk to on here, and who will help you in the future, DO make their living from being a DJ and DO class it as a career and a REAL JOB...
DJ's at the top of their game, will spend many, many, many more hours at work either on their equipment, mixing skills, music choice & knowledge, event planning/management, liaising with clients etc. In many cases more than a standard 9 to 5.
If your attitude is that this is a way to make a "quick buck" while at college, then this will only limit your own expertise, creativity and not to mention your business potential. If you are serious and want to see this as a way of sustaining an income for "the rest of my life", even if it's part time, or a professional hobby (like myself) then you will need to think long and hard about your approach...
I wish you every success, you will find people here to help you, and not just with the software but you need to respect what you do and who you are as a DJ.
Cheers,
Roy

Yes it is compatible with windows 7. Have you done your research on the VMS4, and are sure this is the controller for you.

Doing my research now. As a beginner DJ I do not understand all the different terms relating to configurating. I also do not understand the sound card set config. Part of me asking all these questions is to lear so I dont have to ask onyone. Perhaps maybe I can help someone myself one day. I am getting the VMS4 because I have reviewed a number of mixers and the VMS4 appears to be more suitable for me at the price/amount that I can afford right now. That is why I am asking these questions. The last mixer I had made the music stutter while I loaded tracks on the other deck. I cant have that happen at a party I am DJing. Wasnt sure if it was a windows 7 problem or just a configuration issue.

hi m8....
always nice to hear someone new coming into the business.....
would it not be wise to find out what was causing the problem with the original mixer first ?
cause if the problem is windows related, you might have the same probs all over again ...and you just spend ££££'s on something you dont need !
as for a mixer......
if i were you...just to get you on your feet and see if you are gonna like it.....why dont you get something like - Hercules DJ Control MP3 E2 USB DJ Controller....
its only £99 and is more than up for the job.....rather than jump in and spending out £££'s on something.
the VMS4 is a very nice mixer but....i would say...to begin with....get something more easier to work with....and cheaper..
coming into this game....DONT rush out and buy all the latest, top notch, all singing ,all dancing gear at first.....
take your time.....start small and build your way up.....add a bit here and there as you gain experience / bookings....
update your rig only when - after it has payed for its self - you feel the need to progress to something with more bells and whistles on it - it is actually gonna make a differance to your performance....
remember....joe public 95% dont give a hoot what your using.....as long as you provide great music and keep them entertained/dancing all night.
the other 5% are DJ's......they do give a hoot what your using.....but you dont worry about what others think m8...do whst best for YOU.
above all.....enjoy what your about to do....
and yes....you WILL aquire the DJ FACE......ask around the board...sure the rest of the guys will tell you what it is lol....
good luck....

Thank you Johhny. I agree that I can probably purchase a cheaper mixer. The reason why I wanted the VMS4 is because I do a lot of scratching in my mixes and I just wanted a mixer that is quipped for scratching. I will admit that when I get the VMS4 all I want to do is install the software, connect the mixer to my laptop, route the output from the laptop to the amp out to the speakers. I just want to keep it simple. I was hoping that I wouldnt need to configure anyting because I really dont know what I am doing (LOL). Also, the last mixer that I told you about didnt even have an input for head phones so all the mixes I did were difficult because I didnt have a headphone output from the mixer to here what loaded song I was going to bring into the mix.
So basically I need a mixer that will allow me to scratch. It cant be just any mixer that scratches because the cheap ones are not precise and I really need precision when scratching as if it was a turntable.

There are some issues with this controller. They have also unveiled new versions at the recent NAMM convention. This is why I asked if you had done your research. Search this forum and the American Audio forum, to get the info you need.

Has anyone had a problem with the VMS4 cutting off and having to rest it? I have been reading some reviews and that was a major issue in many that I read. Anyone having problems with the VMS4 reseting and powering off?

Can someone tell me what latency and latency settings are in reference to the VMS4? It would be most appreciated.

I need help. while one song plays on Deck A I like the song on Deck B to mix into the song on Deck A. So to mix it in I need to here the song that will be mixed in on Deck B through the headphones. Can I just stick the head phones in the VMS4 headphone output to hear the music that I what to bring in from Deck B? i would like to know if I have to configure my VMS4 software (VDJ LE) to here music on the headphones. I heard something about using the mother board soundcard for the heaphones but I do not know what any of that means. My issue is when I am mixing and preparing another song to be brought into the mix I would like to prepare it by putting it on the headphone so only I can hear it as appose to it coming out on the speakers while the song from Deck A is playing. Can you explain this to me? Thank you so much.

The VMS4 is configured to work "out the box" as a 2 channel MIDI mixer with VDL LE using channels 2 & 3. Deck 2 being left and 3 being right.
Each deck has a cue button above the fader. Pressing the cue button will enable the deck to be heard through the headphones. You can have none either or both. The headphone controls have volume (gain) and cuemix dials. Volume is obvious, cuemix allows you to put the master output through the headphones allowing you to hear both what's playing to the crowd as well as what you are planning to mix.
This is standard behaviour for any DJ mixer so you will not have a problem with achieving what you describe.
That said, the issues with the VMS4 are currently hit and miss. I loved my one, but I had several technical issues that meant I had to return it. Others have had very few or no issues. Make sure your dealer has a returns policy and that you have the time to test thoroughly before using live and in time for you to return/exchange if you have issues.
I hope it works out for you, the controller interface on the VMS4 is amazing, very responsive. You will have lots of fun.
Cheers,
Roy

Thanks Roy that was clear and understandable. Wow "hit or miss" thats scary because I have a party to DJ on March 12th. Should I just go with the Numark Mixtrack Pro? Or maybe the IDJ3. Are those having technical issue too?
Thanks mate.

Ok I just want to make sure that my Config settings will be correct when I purchase my VMS4 tomorrow so can someone tell me if my setup will be correct. Without the VMS4 my system is as followed:
Setup WITHOUT The VMS4
A standard 3.5mm going into the output of the laptop headphone jack with the audio/video jack (red & white) on the other end of the 3.mm going into the Amp and speakers connected to the amp.
Now, once I purchase the VMS4 my system setup will be ass followed:
Setup WITH The VMS4
Standard 3.5mm going into the output of the laptop headphone jack with the audio/video jack (red & White) on the other end of the 3.mm going into the VMS4. Then I will have the VMS4 connected to the amp and speakers connected to the amp.
With all that said would the Config Settings below be correct for the “SETUP WITH the VMS4”?
Input: None
Output: External mixer
Sound card: VMS4
