might be a silly question but how comes itunes protected music is able to play on the pro but no the other additions?

or is there a way of getting them to play?

you can convert DRM files with Switch Sond File Converter .
 
To answer the other part of your question, m4a songs from iTunes probably don't play in VDJ Pro and not LE because Pro has more features, the ability to play m4a's being one of them.
