Hi,
to be safe, all of your CUE points, TAG iand BPM nformations are avilable on your new laptop, you should do this steps.
1) Copy "with" VDJ the music folders from your OLD laptop to a external harddisk
2) Copy "with" VDJ the music folders from your external harddisk to your NEW laptop
3) Copy hole C://Documents/VirtualDJ folder from your old to your new laptop
If you adopt the same folder structure from your old laptop to your new one, you can easy recover your playlists.
OLD Laptop:
D:Music/HipHop/2010 May/Classic/...........
New Laptop:
E:Music/HipHop/2010 May/Classic/...........
You must now only edit your playlists and "find&replace" D:Music/ with E:Music/
Now your Playlists work like before.
But you must have the same folder/path structure
I would advice you to create on your new laptop two partitions.
Partition C: = The partition for your OS
Partition D: = The partition for your music
So, if you had to reinstall your OS once a time, you did not lost your music.
But i hope you have a backup drive for your music ;-)

hi,
thanks for the breakdown, however i'm having trouble using my old playlists on the new computer after the file transfer.
the playlists open in vdj, and i can see the tracks, but all of the tracks show a yellow question mark on the small disc icon,
and show an error when loaded to deck. my track collection is ok: all files are analyzed and work.
my original playlists created on my old computer were found in: C:\Users\username\Documents\VirtualDJ\Playlists
steps i took when transferring files:
1.copied the vdj folder found at: C:\Users\username\Documents\VirtualDJ onto an external drive
2.placed the folder at the same location on the new machine: C:\Users\username\Documents\VirtualDJ
i use an external drive for my track collection so the path is the same.
what am i doing wrong? i'm not sure i understand the find&replace function you mentioned.
thanks!

i also tried copying them from the vdj file browser on the left
**right click on playlist and select "copy to", then select copy location**
but the playlists still error on load and show the yellow question mark.
alternately, i've tried replacing the registry keys along with deleting them as a whole
and importing from the old machine and then uninstalling/rebooting for fresh install,
but that breaks the playlist.xml? which i cant find.
any ideas?
an export/import settings/playlists function would be a great idea for future revs :D

i fixed it by cloning the original drive and using it on the other computer: same make and model.
everything works fine now.
thanks!
