Hey guys....
Was wondering if anyone had come across this happening before regarding my software crash last weekend.
Basically, i was using VDJ with my hercules Mk2 and the Audiofire4 soundcard (with the firewire port coming from a PC card bus). Everything was sounding amazing, and working fine. I was recording the set at the same time too, although thats never caused a problem before. At the time of the crash i wasn`t paying attention to the CPU counter either so dont know how busy it was working unfortunately.
Anyways.....i was just loading up my last track, got it set up and then put my headphones down. MY headphones landed on the soundcard and at the same time that happened a horrible high pitced squeal ripped through the sound system, my computer froze and i could do absolutely nothing.
Luckily the next dj was waiting to play so i grabbed one of his cd`s and he got to play 5 mins earlier, so all in all it could have been a LOT worse!!
This is the first time the Pro version has ever crashed on me in nearly 3 years which is pretty good going, so im not stressing too much about it, but would like to know the cause. If its avoidable or not.
Would the contact between the headphones and soundcard have any cause in this? or was that just bad timing? Maybe just knocking a cable or something? I didnt hit the card REALLY hard, just a mild drop really.
Or was it just an unfortunate, unavoidable, possibly one-off crash?
Has anyone else had this experience? Is was it something i did or was it just one of those things?
At least i learnt a valuable lesson - Always have a backup cd just in case!!! hehehe.
Many Thanks
Ian

it happens to me when i bump my firewire cord and cause a slight gap in the data stream to the mixer. i use a dif setup than you but same concept. firewire for sound card and midi control. i bet if you set up and wiggle the firewire cord a bit you can replicate the problem you had. firewire cables on laptops are touchy i never move mine once its set up.

Thanks very much djsynstr
That gives me a bit of peace of mind knowing that its something easily avoided. I`ll try replicating it tonight and see what happens.
Thanks again ;-)
