Topic: CD ROM problems

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

time to time a have a problem when plugging the audio cd into my notebook and combo drive for some reason couldnt read it. Vdj plays, but I am unable to control it ...
I cannot click on my computer (because it wants to acces the cd-drive)

only way to bypass it is to click start -> run -> c:music

and the i can click on file and play it with winamp.

Problem is that I cannot kill VDJ
same problem sometimes with EAC (exact audio copy)

I have a cd on the separate IDE controller in the notebook.

This is an windows bug I think, and is caused probably by some I/o error which causes unability to kill an application that wanted to acces drive. Unable to shutdown. Just kil the power helped.

Just the question if someone encouters the same problems.

And I plan to buy a cheap usb2 harddrive bay for 3,5'' ide HDD and connect 2 cdroms to it (i will not use the plastics, just the electronic parts). Enclose it in my playing console.
Will it perform better when connected thru USB2. So in case there wil be an error, i can unplug the drives and reconnect it ... ?
