Topic: Attention All Video DJ's.............

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Now that I got your attention....:) I am starting to build a pretty nice collection of videos (VOB format), and I want to save some space on my drives. I would like to convert from vob to mp4. Sense you guys are the experts, can you direct me towards the best app to convert vob to mp4? Thanks in advance.

This is the ONLY audio/video converter you'll ever need, no contest. And, it's FREE. The interface is a bit crowded but once you
paly around with it it's fine. Many presets also.

Thanks fellas for the quick responses.....time to sit down and start converting...................Gonna take me a whole weekend to do though! ;)

or stay with .VOB and get bigger harddrives when you start to run out of space..

This is great and converts to and from every format - http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx

I agree that mp4 is the best format because of its small size and good quality, but with affordable 1.5 TB hard drives currently out there, and with storage space constantly getting bigger, you can just stick with the original .VOB files.

TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress - not free but very good.

I STRONGLY suggest you NOT re-code ALL your videos to Mp4 unless you plan on keeping the original files. More users report problems using Mp4 than Mpeg2. (vob) especially systems with borderline resources. I suggest recoding a group of files first and see how well they perform before converting them all. This way if you do have issues you can go back to your original files. (Recoding back to Mpeg2 from Mp4 is NOT a good option)

C'mon man with the CHEAP price of Hard drives just buy a big drive(s) and leave them alone!

Yea, it looks like I might do better just getting a bigger drive. Thanks for all the input from everyone. I just saw a video at half the file size (mp4) that looked just as good...... But it's a lot quicker to rip to a Vob file for sure! Thanks again everyone!

My system stutters vob files. Mp4 never a problem, if I use a vob I am garanteed a stutter and a freeze up.

Just thought I would throw that in there.

Since the last couple of months.. All my new videos are Mp4 h.264 video quality in 720p pr 1080p.

I am interested in hi def video, the next step..is there a converter that does HD VIDEO CONVERSIONS,or where can you get them,thanks..

Are you ripping them from YouTube? Or getting them somewhere else?

I also agree with buying a bigger hard drive instead of trying to convert all your files. Most .VOB's will load faster and as also mentioned earlier, will work better on less hardware.

A 2 Terrabyte drive is pretty cheap nowdays. Just make sure you get two of them and backup regularly of course.

Somewhere else

A lot of you guys are saying "Do not convert VOB, just buy bigger hard drive". What if I want to get rid of black borders and normalize sound? Convert VOB to another VOB?
Or you just don't care how your videos look on the screen?

Love it: http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/

Free, works great, converts everything with no errors and not in Chinese like Super© .

Make sure you enable interlace and uncheck normalize in the options.

Most of the older videos don't look any better if they are 250mg vob or a 50mb mp4. My new Usher vid's @ 75mb mp4 looks 100 times better than any pre 2003 video in vob format. Also, smaller videos take less time to transfer

thanks,
David
