Topic: VIDEO CRASHING WITH SLIDESHOW!

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi there,

I have just had a trial on my friends copy of virtual DJ. I am currently looking for software that I can use to VJ at events to replace my DVJ 1000's. I have purchased a pair of CDJ2000's and have a DJM700 mixer. Everything works great (apart from the latency for scratching isn't great) however when I'm mixing MPEG2 (vob) videos and try to run a slideshow the system can't cope and crashes! I usually have a folder of about 300 images all 3mb each in size (at present I use a seperate laptop...). My VJ laptop is very high spec. 2.4 dual core, 4Gig RAM, 512 Graphics, 500g hardrive, USB3 connections. I did have a look through the forums and found that a moderator has built a different slide show that sounds like it works. I know serato SL has one and am looking at that at the moment however it is more expensive. I really want to buy Virtual DJ as it's a great program but I don't want to fork out the money if it's not the right program for me....

Please can someone let me know if I can display a slideshow whilst running video? It seems that the slideshow takes up all of the programs power, even when not playing video...

PS. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong thread.

Latency should be fine; thats probably just a configuration issue.

The built-in slideshow should work fine; I'm not aware of any issues which cause it to crash. The problem with it was that it stretched pictures out of aspect.

I built a Slideshow plugin that resolves this; an update is due soon with a whole load of new features including different transitions :)

What size are the files you are using out of interest?

Hi Scott,
Looking forward to your new update. Was also wondrin' if you remember some of the old conversations we had about when I used your slideshow, then deactivated the video (following use with your slideshow) for use with another karaoke program, the secondary screen wouldn't completely give away all priority and it caused a crash. The VDJ slideshow, however, works fine after a "video deactivate" followed by use of the karaoke program (with no crash).

Sort of hoping your new version can completely release its secondary screen priority after using the slideshow. This will allow the karaoke program to run without any crashes (the way it does okay now with the VDJ slideshow).

It hasn't been a problem during testing :)

Oh good then. So are you saying for sure that when after a slideshow, you can double-click the small video box in the skin that deactivates the video(or go to config and do the same thing to deactivate), then use another program that requires full priority of that secondary screen immediately afterwards. And did you also ascertain that that is not the case in the version that is now out (meaning that you cannot completely release the second screen when deactivating).

If so, fantastic.

I just wanted to make sure that I've expressed the situation clearly.

Ok, I have purchased Virtual DJ, latency solved. Tried installing the SBDJ slideshow I have heard people raving about however to my dispointment I get the following error "d3dx9_37.dll file could not be found" I have tried on 3 different machines running vista and windows 7. Please help, I'm really missing out :-(

I'm also getting this error with a few other video pluggins which is really frustrating, all SBDJ ones and also firetext, grrr.... Any ideas people?

Just a quickie on the update to this thread, I have played out virtual DJ quite alot now and use the slide show often. One problem I seem to get that when I load images into the slideshow from a memory stick the computer freezes for about a minute then displays them, taking up alot of CPU. Is there anyway to reduce this loading time, CPU usuage, it seems like alot......

A minute does seem a little long. How many images are you loading up at a time?

How big are the files it's taking so long to load?
