Topic: Quick Question about set up

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I recently changed my dj setup, I now use my laptop. I have Hercules RMX, a Gemini EQ and a Gemini 4000 watt amp. I did a party and the sound quality wasnt that great. My question is do I need to get a external sound card to get better sound quality?

Thanks

i use the same type set up, did you pre-test the sound before your gig. as for the external its a matter of preference, yes you will prob get a noticble differnce from the rmx however what you just described you should have had a nice output...you may want to check your eq settings.

Yeah I think I might have to test it out again, Thanks

What outputs are you using on the RMX and what are you going in to...?

Firstly, the 1/4" jacks have a higher output than the RCA's so first of all you are better off using them.

Secondly, are you going from the RMX in to your EQ or do you have a mixer in between? I found that something out of the Behriger Xenyx range like the 1202 worked wonders - not that expensive either...

Not only that, as the mic input of the RMX is known for being poor, the Xenyx offered me a decent mic input with full tone control (as well as 100 effects to add to the mix). Plus I had inputs to spare which helped me on several occasions for additional mics or musicians...

I have the RMX going to the EQ with the RCA connection then the EQ to the Amp. And your right about the mic sounding very low. I'm gonna try it with the jacks.

Thanks Roy

You'll see an increase from -10db to +5db (i think off the top of my head). from what I recall though, this is still a tad quieter than a CDJ1000, and you would never connect one of them directly to an EQ!! Therefore I would still recommend a mixer between the RMX and the EQ.

The Xenyx is small and compact and won't take up too much booth space. I, at the moment, have the RMX in "external mixer" mode feeding in to an American Audio Q-SD mixer then output from there to my EQ using the balanced XLR connections...

Cheers,

Roy
