Topic: Hip Hop BPM's

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I was wondering what most of the users here that play hip hop do with their analyzed songs. Do most just go with the scan results, or manually edit with the /2 option. Or do you manualy count for each individual song. Thanks.

For the most part I've never had a problem with what the program gives as a bpm, but you should always go by your ear.

I manually edit every individual song so I know the bpms are spot on. This involves me using the "smart tap" keyboard shortcut (or whatever it's called) to align the grid to be 'on the one', make sure the grid is lined up from the beginning of the song to the end and that the bpm is not double what it should be (which happens often with slower tempo hip hop). I also set all my cue points for mix-in and mix-out sections. It's a pain in the ass and it's labor intensive but once it's done, it's done, and I know all my tracks are analyzed accurately. Just so you know, it took me about a year and a half to go through my 20,000+ tracks one by one, but I'm a full time DJ and I'm very serious about my tracks being accurate (don't even get me started about spelling consistencies lol). As good as the VDJ bpm detection engine is, there is still the odd track that doesn't read accurately.

all of the above. just depends on which method suits your needs at the time.
