I hope someone can help.. I am in the market for a new laptop to do video mixing.. I currently run XP with a dual core and a maya 44 USB and a usb 1TB hard drive.. All of the laptops I have been looking at seem to come with WINDOWS 7 64 BIT .. can someone tell me if the latest version of virtual DJ (6.08) will run ok on WINDOWS 7 64 BIT and will the MAYA 44 USB run on windows 7 64 BIT with ASIO drivers??
I dont want to have any issues as I worked with someone a few weeks ago who had windows 7 64 bit and virtual DJ didnt work correctly....

I would first do a search on the maya 44, I dont use it myself, but some audio cards do NOT have very good 64 bit drivers..
then don't look at them ;-) their are lots of laptops that also come with 32 bit windows, concentrate on those first..
VDJ ONLY needs 2 gigs of ram with a video card with 256 megs of dedicated video..
biggest mistake I see is some users go and purchase the biggest, baddest, gamer machine, and they are all pissed off when they find out the cheaper laptop actually works better with VDJ.

Yes I know all of this.. I wanted to get a DELL since I can get a good deal... what laptop do you recommend? I want more then 256M dedicated video memory.. more like 512MB dedicated.. BUT what laptop do you recommend?? I dont want to spend $1000 if I dont need to...

The USA dell might be different..
The CAN one lists 1 laptop with 1gig video ram, and three laptops with 256mb ram..
judging by the responses of people, the ones who have >1 gig video cards seem to be the ones who are having the most problems..
Do search on the Dell Vostro and see what other users say..
it uses the 4500M HD graphics card.. I dont remember if I have seen anything good or bad about it??

Ok. just did a quick search in some of the video threads.
I saw one user saying he has good results with the intel 4500 graphics card..
He did report after a 4 hours he was getting an increased chance of crashing.. but I've seen a few other people reporting the exact same issue with different video cards, and he was running 64 bits OS... so I don't think thats an "intel 4500" problem.
So a Dell Vostro with the 256mb dedicated video & 32 bit windows 7, sounds like something that would work..???

Also dont forget, when you order from someplace like DELL, you can ask them to put on whatever OS you want. Just talk to someone on their online help desk thing, or send them an email and ask how to do it. I know a lot of people that order through them and still want XP on their machine.
The only problem is, 32-bit windows can only address 4gb of system RAM. Period. So lets say it allocates 500mb to system resources (sound, etc.), and your video card has 512mb on it.... It doesnt matter if you have 4gb or 12gb, windows is only going to be able to USE 3gb after that. You NEED a 64-bit OS to be able to use anything over 4gb of RAM. I myself have 8gb of DDR3, plus 64mb on my sound card, and 2gb on my video cards. My system flies. ;)
