Topic: Make your own speaker cables

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

For over 10 years, i have been making my own speaker cables. Here in the USA, there's a store called Home Depot. I would buy 100 feet of hunter green landscaping 16 guage power cable. Its rated at 1850 watts. I would cut the plug and the other end of the wire. The wire is folded evenly so when i cut it, i would have two long wires. Since the wire is a 3 prong, i use the white for + and the black for - The green neutral, i cut. The connector im using is speakon's. Into the speakon is +1 white wire, -1 is the black wire. Here is what it looks like below. The picture was taken in bright light. In a catering hall, The color of the wire looks darker.

They do sell black wire without the plug and they cut it for you :) You just have to tell them how much wire you want and the size. I did that for the power wire to run my setup.

Thanks very much for this - will give it a try!

Good idea, but I find any colour other than black to look unprofessional.

@ Dizzy rocks. The color is noticable now because i was showing how i made them in a very bright room. The color is a Dark hunter green When your dj iing a party where the lights are not bright like my picture, you wont see that. I made these cables for many djs and they were really satisfied with the quality and look. You could get black but it cost more. This is just an affordable way to get very good speaker cables.

smart .....i doubt if the color is an issue

i met my ex in the one night stand aisle @ Home Depot .......

I got the gist of It but, I only use 12 gauge speaker wires. 16 gauge won' t do for me.

Still a good deal lol
